Fuckin awesome.
I know there are a lot of Dylan fans here... and I'm surprised this hasn't come up yet.
This briliant documentary was released on September 20. I first tried getting it the day after that, although they didn't have it at any of the local video stores or Wal-Mart. The next day I bought it at Barnes & Noble. I immediately went home and watched it. The damn thing is about three and a half hours long, but entirely worth it.

It traces Bob Dylan's musical career starting in a small Minesota mining town to the Grenwich Village scene in New York, and finally to transition into rock music. It shows the consequent criticisms by his former fans and his eccentric behavior brough on by all the fame and drugs. This movie also has great performances by Joan Baez, Pete Seeger, Odetta, Woody Guthrie, and a bunch of people who influenced Dylan. Amazing directing by Scorsese.

Great movie.
If you missed it on TV, I recomend buying it.

I saw the first part on PBS and missed the second part. :( Very interesting to learn about his early years. Not the troubadour of Woody, but still he has a fascinating history. And I was thinking when I saw it that RedStar's long lost friend, Suze Rotolo materialized on it! heh! Lost RedStar and found Suze!

I watched the first hour of it on the PBS and thought it was a bit dull. Seemed to be more about his inluences then about himself. I guess the film covered more of his life in the second half.

Very interesting documentary, watched the first half on PBS and it was very good. Interesting to see the connections between him and woody guthrie.

As well, that bit about the people booing his first live performance with The Band was pretty funny. In my opinion, wheather its electric or live, the music can still speak to you
