yer what are the classics we must see? what are some really good revolutionary films? both revolutionary politics but revolutionary changes in technique and style.

Godard went through a hyper-political period 67 with weekend through to the 80s when he became more mainstream... can anyone think of other directors or particular films to look into.

City of God. It's one of the best films I've seen... ever.

Well, you can't go wrong with "Reds", based on the book, "10 Days That Shook The World", by John Reed. Admittedly, it uses the cheesy romantic subplot heavily in the movie, but other than that, it's an excellent piece, documenting the run up to, and aftermath of, the Russian Revolution. Also, it has a great line for debunking capitalism:

"Tell me, what does a capitalist make, apart from money?" - John (Or Jack) Reed.

Sahara - So crap that it's good.
The Salton Sea - The only thing wrong with this movie is Val Kilmer.
Once Upon A Time In Mexico - Violent and funny.
Blade: Trinity - More of a comedy than an action movie.
Bad Santa - Sick, sick comedy. I laughed so hard that I almost shit myself.

No leftist ideology, sadly, but still good to watch.

I've only seen bits and pieces of Casablanca, but I thought Lost in Translation was very good. Another good movie is The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou

Radical movies:

"Matewan" - it's like he made a western out of a movies about a strike. It's like "high noon", but the protagonist is a communist.

"Malcom X" - best political movie of the 90s

"X-men 1 & 2" - Mutants Unite, you have nothing to loose but your chains!

"Battle of Algiers" - best war movie ever made. Even the pentagon screened it to find out what an urban occupation and resistance looks like.

Entertaining movies that I would watch any time they came on the tv:

"Monty Python and the Life of Brian"

"Hairspray"

"Evil Dead I & 2"

"When we were Kings"

"Hedwig & the Angry Inch"

"Zoolander"

"Shaolin Soccer"
