View Full Version : Making your own newsletter/magasine

Basically at my school me and a few friends created a group which was originally intended on just being a rallying point for local leftwingers... But in the past few months it's slowly grown and we've even got the backing of a couple of teachers...
we have a reasonably sturdy member base and now we're looking where to go next (so any sugestions on that wouldn't go amiss)
anywho, recently a member of my group had a very long meeting with the headteacher about an article he wrote for the school magasine which in the end was heavily censored...
This sparked us off to want to launch our own magasine/newsletter, in the past I've received a few stacks of these kind of things from some anarchist and socialist groups we know... but really we want to launch our own...
As for graphics and designing we're pretty much ok as most of the members are pretty handy at computers and whatnot, but it's actually how to go about launching a newspaper or whatever we're bemused about...
Anyone got any suggestions?

Download QuarkXpress from Kazaa, eDonkey or wherever you get your wares. It's easy to use and very, very proffesional.

The less glossy and slick the better. Just some plain paper, acess to a copier and good writing staff is all you need. then just pass them out to everyone you meet.

Why the fuck would a leftist, or for that matter any rational human, want to put that utter horseshit in a paper?

i think that this old-fashioned fanzine look is great - just use a normal writing programme, print that stuff out, cut it out, combine it with riot photos (e.g. people beating down fascist, when writing an articel about antifascism) or photos of starving people in the third world (when writing an article about the results of capitalism), then copy it - anyway, just make it "real" or "true". and of course ask someone to check the spelling, grammar etc. if you are unsure about that.

i agree with fascist hunter, just cutting stuff out and sticking it on pieces of paper work best. we have a photocopier at uni with a specific 'booklet' function so you just put all the pages through in the order you want them to appear and it prints them out as a5 booklet pages and all you have to do is fold. no messiness in trying to figure out 'well if this is page 5 in a 16 page booklet what goes on the other side?'
its great, if you have access to something like that makes it heaps easier.

we have about 5 photocopiers at school, they're all pretty new as well so I'll check out if any of them have a booklet function...
