There is currently a struggle going on in some States of the US between the neo-cons who are pushing the absurd intelligent design theory to counter Darwin’s evolutionary theories. Obviously this is just an attempt to indoctrinate children in Christian theology.

What can we as leftists do (or what are we doing) to stop this ridiculous attack on reason and science?

We can keep on mentioning the Seperation of church and state amandeament until it hurts. For some reason many people have forgotten that exists. Like George W. Bush and such.

Why is this in Politics? Intelligent design is an assault on Science, motivated by superstition.

Its a political issue. True it addresses science and "faith", but it is a political matter, as there are clear political divisions created by this topic.

It seems like a major step backwards, but in my opinion the concept is simply laughable. What can we really do except keep doing what we are doing?
