Full Story (http://news.independent.co.uk/world/americas/article315126.ece)

In what is being described as the most important legal battle involving creation and evolution in the last 18 years, a Pennsylvania court will hear opening arguments today on a school board's attempt to include an alternative to Darwin's theory in the curriculum.

...

A four-paragraph statement read to students tells them that evolutionary theory "is not a fact" and "intelligent design is an explanation of the origin of life that differs from Darwin's view."

First of all, the entire school board needs to be fired as Darwin's work is frankly outdated - evolutionary theory has moved on since then.

Most of the Intelligent Design argument presented in the story above are debunked HERE (http://www.talkorigins.org/indexcc/)

I think I've said before that I can't even believe this is up for debate. the ID "scientists" making these claims obviously do not know anything about their own fields. They just can't let go of religion, it would destroy their lives if it was sidelined or eliminated.

Evolution is a theory, some people think it is the end all and be all, but, still a theory. (SWAG)

Intelligent Design is also a theory, some people think it is the end all and be all, but still a theory. (a belief system).

Prove either wrong or right and you will still have people believing the other on faith if nothing else.

Just remember, black holes are where G d divided by zero.

Evolutionary theory and evolutionary fact are two different things. It is a fact that creatures around us are constantly evolving, but the precise processes of this fact, evolutionary theory, are still very much disputed amongst reputable evolution scientists.

Intelligent design is bullshit.

Darwin's work was inherently flawed, I think the views of opposing schools of though should be taught... but not those of religious groups.

And what non-religious alternatives to evolution are there?

I have no idea, but if in the future one arises it should be taught.

There's a religious alternative involving aliens as intelligent designers...it's called the Raelian Movement.

How are Darwin's theories 'inherently' flawed?
