This movie kept me laughing for weeks afterwards at its bizarreness. Its right up there for weirdness with Leningrad Cowboys Go America for some of the greatest musical numbers ever committed to celuloid.

Cheers

I saw the film on IFC probably about two years ago and absolutely loved it. I went out and purchased not only the DVD, but also the soundtrack that very week. The original cast recordings are pretty good as well, though the tempo on many of the songs are significantly different. Overall, the film is pretty much what the Rocky Horror Picture Show should have been; campy humor and symbolic plots all tied together with great glam rock! Besides, John Cameron Mitchell looked damned sexy in some of those scenes ;)

It's really too bad that more people haven't seen the film as it was greatly overshadows at the 2001 Sundance Film Festival by the likes of Donnie Darko and Memento, both of which I would also recommend watching for the record (even though the Director's Cut of Donnie Darko is far superior since it actually give you some sense of what is going on).

it's one of my favorites ever. much better than rocky horror. if you liked hedwig, check out "butch camp". it's not a musical, but it's a riot.
