View Full Version : "George" clothing

George clothing (this is pirmarily in the UK) has presented new adverts on tv. There are children advertising clothes and using marxism as a form of sales propaganda.
one girl is standing on the arm of Lenin, another girl is holding a hammer and sicle and a third is standing on a red star.
this is unacceptable and a complete mockery, using marxism to advertise means that they are exploiting marxism, using it to sell clothes thus marxism loses it's meaning.
i suggest that we protest in order to stop this humilation.

Isn't it Cherokee that has these adverts, not George?
I don't really care about them - I find them quite hilarious and I think that they should continue.
Besides, the hammer and sickle is an outdated symbol (I just use it here because I like the look of it), so people can do with it what they like!

How can you sport the Hammer and Sickle and have no Idea as to what it symbolizes? Putting women around it takes away its meaning. It's the equivilant to people wearing those Che shirts that make him look like a monkey. It is a symbol for something and sporting a shirt with such an image of women around Lennon takes away the meaning. It's almost the same as wearing those shirts that make fun of George Bush. Both make fun of the subject. It's a good form of protest against Bush, and it is a good form of protest against Communism.

Hence, make more shirts that make fun of Bush
Dont support shirts that make fun of Communism, Che, Lennon, Marx, Castro, etc.

Its spelled Lenin and all ideas and idols should be ridiculed and challenged as often as possible.

bluerev002:
The hammer and Sickle symbolizes nothing good anymore. In its day it represented the unique nature of the Russian Revolution, and was specific to that.
Once the revolution was taken over and the hammer and sickle was used to represent to oppression of millions, it lost any value it ever had.

It's the equivilant to people wearing those Che shirts that make him look like a monkey.
Which I like as I completly disagree with his theory! :P

and it is a good form of protest against Communism.
These things (apart from Lenin, but his statues do count) do not represent communism, so they are not protesting against it.

They are clearly not political at all, just a 'style' of clothing that has been around for ages, popular among young people.

Just try and dissacociate youeself from it, for example, don't wear the clothes in question. You shoulden't need clothing to remind yourself or others of your alignment anyway.

We need to be continually challenging our own ideas and others, as well as those of so-called idols. Otherwise we became stagnant at best and crippingly dogmatic at worst. Ridicule should also be used, just to keep everyone on their toes.

"all ideas and idols should be ridiculed and challenged as often as possible."

Alright, lets all mock that idiot Proudhon then! :P

Everyone has someone from history they think has at the very least been on the right side, though I do agree the motives of anyone in power should be questioned.

Back on the subject: I also think its really funny that Cherokee, the clothing of TESCOS no less, should be using the imagery they do to advertise clothes. It doesn't make me angry or upset in the slightest, despite the blatant hypocrisy. The words "bourgeoisie" and "own gravedigger" spring to mind...

they sell sweaters in target ( a store like walmart but a bit more expensive and what they would say "classier") here in america with the hammer and sickle (well its a hammer and sickle but they are making an x, they are one on top of the other) and cccp on them.

It may be annoying, but so is misuse of term communsm itself, will it make it stop by simply complaining? Probably not. If people want to wear this counter-culture "uniform" then so be it, you don't have to have anything more to do with a few disillusioned teenagers, than you do with Pol Pot.

I don't really mind at all, I think it's rather cool actually. I've got a black T-shirt with a hammer & sickle on it with "Republic of Mancunia" across the symbol in a Russian style font. (Yes I am a Man U fan, I have to be)

The Hammer and Sickle still is a rather neat symbol. I don't think just because of a repressive country used it to logo-ise its "revolution" --a revolution against the revolution, perhaps-- but rather that it still means a lot to some. I still believe it's a symbol of the peasentry and proletariat.

Fuck off!
Who the fuck are you to tell me that when I'm just slagging off an out-dated symbol? If you think that a little symbol actually means so much to communism that it is a disgrace to go against it, you have serious problems with your politics.
