New guy here -- mid thirties, been "flirting" with communist theory since college, and for the past 5-6 years, realized that socialism is really the "only way." I really hate the way the U.S. Democratic Party has lurched to the right, the way our safety net programs are being whittled away, the way the middle class is starting to shrink. I hate the obsession with materialism I see in my country, and in myself (is there a Materialist Anonymous 12 step program??? LOL!).
There is no viable leftist groups in the U.S. (that I'm aware of) -- I could be wrong, but most of the socialist "parties" are long on speeches, theory, and back-patting, and short on political/activist organizing.
Anyway, glad to be here.

Welcome, most of advocate insurrectionary leftism but some here advocate democratic measures as it seems you do. The Democrat Party is more or less of a joke anymore.

Thanks for the welcome. I don't really advocate anything. I am "romantic," I suppose, when it comes to pseudo-"democracy," -- I'd like to the believe the lie, but I really know that I'm nothing more than a wage-slave.
I'd like to believe a socialist society could be electorally accomplished, but I know it will never happen. The American populace is too heavily manipulated through the mass media to know their own status -- they'd never vote for anything except the "official" choices. If the great masses were ever to awaken by accident, the plutocracy would grudgingly assume the role of overt dictatorship . . . it wouldn't surprise me in the least.
But, I also don't believe anything else is an option unless it becomes the desire of the great masses -- which won't happen until currently obese Americans are starving, which could be a possible reality in the next few years with globalization. I recently saw some cocky corporatist on CNN smirking about how Americans are going to have to learn how to be more globally competitive (meaning: work without benefits or decent wages). We Americans have been spoiled with our material success, and -- unfortunately -- have forgot the reason our great middle is so affluent is due to the hard-fought-for work improvements by union labor. Now, "org. labor" is "evil" -- but the joke is on American workers, when we can't "compete" with cheaper global labor, and lose the ability to purchase our fancy techno toys.
When our children are starving, and our women are prostituting themselves for food -- we'll awaken, and America will change . . . one way or another.
