President Bush says Iraq's arms declaration is not encouraging. "Yesterday was a disappointing day for those who long for peace," he said Friday. Meanwhile, military sources say Bush has essentially signed off on a plan to deploy 50,000 U.S. troops to the Persian Gulf region and Bush postponed a trip to Africa due in part to the situation with Iraq.

I heard George Bush say that war on Iraq will ensure peace to his people (or something along those lines). He is only interested in peace for westerners he does not give a f uck about anyone else, especially the Iraqi civilians.

I agree with Comrade Daniel. If bush loves peace, he needs to stop solving every fucking problem with a declaration of war.

Definitely, Bush is 100% crazy, thus, he is extremely dangerous. Only a mad man can sustain that concept of peace. It's a pitty Osama couldn't make it into the White House with an AA or UA plane.

That the Bush administration do not seek peace is obvius, I dont think that we should discuss something we all agree on, instead im asking this: Why does the Bush administration declare war on Iraq?...I think its more than just eliminating anyone who threatens the western peace. Dont you, my fellow commies, smell exploatation?....greed, something to do with a black liquid

Miguel,
I read out somewhere that Iraq has panned to give 100% support to Venezuela and actually it does involve the "black liquid". Maybe Bush is trying to eliminate this potential "threat".

Taken from Galeano's page:
http://www.patriagrande.net/uruguay/eduard...en.y.el.mal.htm (http://www.patriagrande.net/uruguay/eduardo.galeano/escritos/el.teatro.del.bien.y.el.mal.htm)

Claro qué si Larissa, petroluim is the most regarded resurce, and one can clearly se the hipocracy of the US policy. With the help of media US hope to give us a picture that we are fighting against evil men and states to bring peace to the world. But the facts of politics hasn´t changed since the formation of modern economics (capitalism), money still runs the world. As in South America, the USA encouriges pro-capitalist (rich people) to dominate within the political sector and therefore gain proamerican allies in the states of developing countries, exploiting these and giving political support to these pro-american leaders. Just like in Cuba (Batista being the pro-american leach) or in Saudi arabia (the royal family giving petrol to the US in exchange for power and domination). Then Hussein comes along, a leader who doesn´t give in for corruption, the USA sees this as a threat, to not being able to buy this guy, and therefore missing all the oil in the terretory. Im not defending Sadam Hussein, but it is clear that the US is not after anything else than global domination...

Miguel and all,
Take a look at this article posted on the NY Times:
http://www.nytimes.com/2002/12/29/internat...cas/29VENE.html (http://www.nytimes.com/2002/12/29/international/americas/29VENE.html)
It's doubly interesting, once rank-and-file workers are brought on to the scene, that they repudiate the "strike", that they see it in nationalist terms, that they point the finger at the executives and supervisors for introducing "politics" into the affair.
Nice quotes to remember:
"Night shift workers were bursting with the pride of war heroes."
"We are prouder now than ever," said Wilfredo Bastardo, a 17-year oil veteran. "We have shown our supervisors that we can run this plant without
them."
