View Full Version : Music Suggestions
More Fire for the People

For now this a general thread for myself, but if others would like to request music suggestions in this topic I wouldn't mind.
So, I'm looking for a band that sounds like my taste, I'm a fan of art rock and electro-pop but the second genre doesn't really matter. Does anyone know of a band or bands that have a instrumental sound similar to Bloc Party, Interpol, Breaking Benjamin, Interpol, Death Cab for Cutie, or A Perfect Circle?
I don't care if they don't vocally sound like but as long as they have an instrumental sound similar to them.

The Postal Service is quite good, in fact I was just listening to them earlier today. My favourite song is the one that has a line that sounds similar to "so out of context in this gaudy apartment complex" but I'm looking for bands I haven't listend to or haven't listened to much.

I like Interpol and Bloc Party, Death Cab are OK, and I haven't heard of the other 2-I assume they're American indie bands that don't get the economic backing to be heard about overseas. But it seems like you have a similar taste to me. In which case I strongly recommend The Arcade Fire; they dont' sound much like the bands you've named, but everyone who likes those bands likes the Arcade Fire. It's well worth checking out Funeral, their debut; it's one of the best debuts, if not one of the best albums, I've heard-and I've heard a lot!
Also, check out Joy Division and New Order......Interpol are very similar to Joy Division, and Bloc Party have elements of both. (NB: new order are the same band as joy division, but they changed their sound and name after the lead singer of joy division killed himself)

ah an indie kid, well that generally looks like what you are, you can probably find loads of stuff to like, have a browse on purevolume.com. Oh and be prepared to be hated for a taste in indie, everyone hates indie kids

Franz Ferdinand - a bit more poppy than Interpol or Bloc Party but still a great band.

I second Joy Division. I'd also say that Gang Of Four would be worth a look if you're into Bloc Party. Some of Bruce Springsteen's stuff is very good and has vaguely similar instrumental styles to Bloc Party, and if you like Joy Division you'll probably like Nebraska. In so far as Springsteen albums I'd recommend: Born In The USA (His 'big' album, it can take a little getting into but if you keep listening you'll fall in love), Nebraska (Mind blowingly dark and eerie acoustic album), Darkness On The Edge Of Town (A mix between Nebraska and Born In The USA - its mostly pretty dark, but not acoustic, has some of the most uplifting and depressing songs ever on it), Devils And Dust (Acoustic like Nebraska, but less depressing and overall a very good album)

Hmm I checked out purevolume, but it seemed to be mainly emo.....indie kids tend to mock emo kids for some reason, despite the 2 genres being fairly closely related.
