Re: your title and sub-title:

DON'T BE AN IDIOT!

Remember that Nicaragua got hit by the biggest earthquake in its recent history during its socialist period, and the only buildings left standing were the Bank of America and Intercontinental Hotel.

According to your theory, that would mean...

Who's an idiot?

1. Nicaragua has never been socialist.

2. The earthquake hit Nicaragua in 1972, when Somoza was in office.

Same thing, no big difference. All that the Sandanistas did during their rule was to whine about the damned earthquake. So I'm cool with the info I gave.

Actually, huge difference. You lose.

Good summary of the Sandanistas time in power by the way, really detailed and ground breaking!

Yeah, luckily he's been restricted. He's quite the "dumbass".

As for the cost of Katrina, I'm seriously surprised its that little of a cost.

It is more, really.

$200 billion is just the government budget cost. The total impact on the economy will be much larger: people dead, injured, sick, homeless, unemployed, businesses out of operation, buildings destroyed....insurance companies taking a big hit....you get the idea.

'Course that's true for wars, too, that the government budget cost is a small part of the real cost.

I saw one article suggesting the Gulf Coast region may take a lot longer to recover economically than parts of the U.S. hit by natural disasters typically do. Partly 'cause the local economy is so agriculture-manufacturing-resource extraction oriented.
