I have heard that he was a great revolutionary that fought for the poor. If they were inspired by him, then I support their inspiration.

Sandino, known as General de Hombres Libres (General of Free Men) was a very important influence for Fidel Castro and Ernesto Guevara.
He is considered a true representative of the humble and the exploited of Nicaragua and Latin America.
He fought U.S occupation forces until he was finally assassinated by puppet "president" Anastasio Somoza García.
Sandino strongly believed Latin America will be able to defeat the yankee oppressor (as he use to call the empire) if the peoples unify. In fact, in Sandino´s Liberation Army there was a Latin American Legion composed of people from all over South America. Sandino´s movement was supported not only by those freedom fighters, but also by some important Latin American and international socialist figures such as Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo. These people were part of a committee called: Manos Fuera de Nicaragua (Hands Off Nicaragua).

"Nosotros iremos hacia el sol
de la libertad o hacia la muerte;
y si morimos nuestra causa
seguirá viviendo. Otros nos seguirán..."
Augusto César Sandino
