Trent Lott is a friggin' ass, but we've know that for years now. His racist comment was not a mistake, it was sincere, I believe. That comment reflects the whole attitude of America towards recaism and segregation. If America is so open, oppression-free, and prejudice-free, then why do blacks live in their own community, hispanics in their own community, whites in their own community, and so on, even today? Why? Why? Why?

jesus christ! did you see his latest interview on BET, it made him seem, rightly so, like a very overt racist. he had absolutely no response to any of the accusations! it was incredible and i think a lot of people watched it. it is not surprising, to anyone that the leaders of both our major political parties are racist. Byrd, the senate leader for the dems was a clansmen untill 89 and two years ago in an interview he called blacks, niggers. I hope this new controversy will draw attention to all the racism in both parties and get these fucking bastards out of office!

It's horrible, I totally agree. However it is not just a problem that needs adressing in the USA. Here in Australia our PM wont say 'sorry' for the thinly disguised attempt at ethnic clensing with the stolen generation of aboriginies.
It is worldwide, race groups seem to live in their own communities everywhere, so don't kid yourselves that it is just Lott. (not that you are or anything,but just, you know, re-iterating the point!)
