Pat Robertson's wish came true! A new opening in the supreme court has been made available! With Bush selecting his replacement our Nation's Supreme court will be controlled by the right-wight! SOS! Help! :(

Please, for all that is holy on this earth, will someone invade us for a regime change? Please?! Our Civil Rights (what little we had) are diminishing before our eyes! Come on Canada, you're not too far from Washington, so come on in.

Yeah, those lifetime appointments are ridiculous.

It's just another example of how undemocratic our nation really is.

I was just thinking about how this means Roe V. Wade = Gone.

Oh well, I guess we'll just have to see what happens with the SC situation.

*Hopes it isn't too bad*

Actually I think I might have over reacted. Renquist is a right winger appointed by Nixon. So a right winger will be replaced by another right winger. However it can be a more extreme conservative. John Roberts (who was recently handpicked by Bush) did replace a moderate justice. At the end of the day the Supreme court will have shifted significantly to the right......so with that said Canda! Please! Invade US! All of our troops are in the middle east and the rest are down in New Orleans! It will be an easy blitzkrieg to Washington! Help!

I think that in fact bush will have a hard time finding and getting through anyone who is more conservative. In fact we may luck out and both the appointments turn out to be moderate. (it happend to first bush or was it Reagan?)

This would be the best case scenerio, but who knows? We have never seen an administration of this kind. I think Bush is destined to live in infamy in the history books of the future. That is if history is recorded accurately. Let's see who replaces him.

Don't worry. Us libs will fight to the death! (or until the protest permit is up...)

Demos don't got leadership. They got a bunch of wet noodles. Right now the entire democratic party is asleep at the wheel, as usual. They're in deeper hibernation than those naps Ted Kennedy enjoys during house meetings.

We need some hardcore demos. It's looking so bleak we need nothing less than Mighty Morphin Super Liberal Rangers to fucken save the day!

Man, I tell you what. We're going to march up to D.C. on Sept. 24! ... and don't forget the Million More March!

These events are going to be huge! It's on muthaphukerz!

This is what Chief 'Justice' Renquist actually achieved:

1.) REDUCING the number of appeals for those on death row.

2.) Pushing through US government's attacks on civil/human rights, both under Democratic and Republican governments.

3.) Promoting state 'rights', which basically means promoting states with ultra conservative policies to do what they want. Remember, the Confederate South went to war over slavery in the name of state 'rights'.

4.) Changing funding laws so religious groups could CLAIM government money and funding. In effect Renquist made American taxpayers fund the Christian fascist/fundamentalist movement in the US. Ironinc, making gays and women have to give their tax money to the bigots who hate them.

Renquist tried but FAILED to get through things like the death penalty for minors, thats right, this guy believes children should be executed.

He was appointed by Nixon, which says a lot really when we think of issues of integerity and accountablility and has been backed by every President since!

We should NOT be suprised that he will be replaced by another reactionary figure, after all it is in the US ruling class's class interest to have one of their own in the top legal job in the US.

And for those of you that have hopes of the Democrats doing something, your only wasting your time as they will do jack shit! That is the way it has always been with liberals as they never really have anything positive to contribute to any progressive cause and we should never make any alliances with them as they stand on the other side of the fence in the class war.

The liberals are the same enemy as the neo-conservatives/Christian fascists. Two sides of the same capitalist coin!

The only thing I have to say with regards to Renquists death is GOOD RIDDANCE!

Even better that he had to suffer (cancer) before his pathetic life came to it's long overdue end.

as much as he was a conservative asshole, it means there are two court openings and that is a bad thing for us.

it may be possible that the person replacing him is more right-wing than him , and that is a dreadful thought :(

Well Renquist was from the HARD right wing, so the replacement will be more of the same I guess.

But remeber, there is NO such thing as a good legal official under capitalism, whether they call themselves liberal or conservative, whether they are friends with Bush or Hillary Clinton, it means fuck all for most people as ALL officials of the state serve the same goal, the dominance of the capitalist class over the working class.

We would only waste time if we got involved in liberal dead end campaigns if we put our efforts into seeing a Democratic Party official as opposed to a conservative official for the job of Chief 'Justice'.

Better for us to get rid of this system and then we a free to build a legal system that actually gives justice for all people, rather than the charade people have to put up with now!

He also voted against the expansion of school desegregation plans and the establishment of legalized abortions (dissenting in the 1973 case Roe v. Wade) and in favor of school prayer, capital punishment and states' rights.

Good guy.

No it doesn't, because Rehnquist voted against Roe v. Wade. Even with Roberts and a more conservative Chief Justice, Roe V. Wade will be safe because it has been defended 6-3 by the court as of 2004, and Rehnquist was one of those 3. So now, even if a conservative judge replaced Rehnquist and votes the same way as him(conservatively), and with Roberts replacing pro-Roe O'Connor, it will still be defended 5-4.

This does spell disaster for more controversial issues that were defended 5-4. Also, if a third Liberal judge dies/retires, roe v. wade could be completely defeated.

Look on the brightside: Rehnquist is dead. At least we can think about that while Bush appoints a neo-fascist and places on of the most important seats of the nation in their greedy bastard hands.

This probably means that rulings in the Supreme Court will take a slightly further right wing turn.

William was on the right, but a lot of times leaned over to the center. Bush will probably pick some aspiring Duce.
