I have a horrible suspicion that the delayed response to Katrina was premeditated.
Who stands to gain by guaranteeing that most of the poor are driven out and their ghetto houses bulldozed?
Why would the levee hold through the 145 mph winds and the waves they kicked up, only to have very localized sections of it crumble in a straight line down to the ground after the storm had passed?
What better way than a media spectacle, rife with finger pointing over "poor maintenance" and budget cuts, to cover it up?
What of the heartfelt promise President Bush made to rebuild New Orleans "bigger and better than it was before."?
What of the determination of the Mayor and Governor to do likewise?
If it is bigger, better, and therefore more expensive and generating more tax revenues, how will the refugees (the people, they would claim, that demanded it be rebuilt) move back in?
Speaking of conspiracy theories, anyone familiar with Alex Jones (http://www.infowars.com/)? He's about as pro-capitalist as you can get, but his anti-government bias has inspired him to do some interesting journalisim.
