Sorry, but I forgot where I saw this... it was something critical of the individual as unimportant, specifically attacking the cult of personality that was developing around himself. Could someone enlighten me about what he said? [analysis is good too, especially if it refers to other things Lenin said]

Come on Lenin, he enjoyed it, when a man is given mythic stature it makes it much easier to gain power. And Lenin was all about power.
