Not that suprising...I mean there was a lot of looting and eveything, but unless the person who took the pictures followed them into to the store and saw those two buy theirs and that kid loot his, it is a great example of racism in the media and how they generally assume certain things according to skin color.

I want an explanation for hat argument. The media generally semes very racist. In this country they attack assylum seekrs or immigrants instead of black or asian people. But these people are always rpestned as blakc ro asian when infact most imigrnats are white.

Its not really surprising to see institutional racism throughout the entire spectrum of the media. It doesn't matter where you go. Go to the New York Times today, and you can see it. Under the headline picture there is a section of “photos and videos”. A pop up window comes up and you can click on different categories. One of the categories is “looting”.

Well what kind of pictures do you see? Well one picture is of a black man on top of his car with a trunk load of beer. Another picture is a white armed police man standing guard over an a dozen black men who allegedly stole a mail truck. A third picture of a white couple with a shotgun standing guard over their store. Presumably over those black looters.

Photos like these, and others, along with grammatical structure of new stories are suppose to perpetuate and enforce stereotypical sentiments, along with cementing and internalizing racist beliefs and attitudes. This is what we call propaganda

This is actually completely unrealated, but is anyone else as dismayed as I am about the seemingly high ratio of stranded black folks in comparisson to white?

Those states such as Louisiana and Mississippi have some of the largest black populations in country. Mix that in with poverty and the fact that some people just didn't have nowhere else to go then you can seee the problem.

They predicted a catergory five hurricane . . . it turned out to be catergory four. Either way, the city's walls can only withstand a two!

So the governments inaction in evacuting the area by providing buses was murder, or at best, criminal negligence.

Agreed. They can spend billions on the War, but they can't spend any money trying to evacuate their own population? Thousands died because of the in-activeness of the American Government.

Definitely. I also like cursor.org a lot, because it's like reading a quick breif in the morning, with the option to read further on the subject.

They link to alternet and indymedia from time to time, as well as a great number of op-ed blogs, etc.
