Al- Qaaeda Aims at Iran and Afghanistan

TEHRAN, Dec 5 (AFP) - Iran has received information of a specific al-Qaeda or Taliban threat against its Kabul embassy, possibly including a car bombing, press reports said Thursday.

The reports quoted Iranian diplomats as warning that members of the ousted militia or the shadowy terror network were preparing either bomb attacks or assassinations against Iranian interests in Kabul, including the embassy and journalists from state media.

"Two Arab members of al-Qaeda have entered Kabul to bomb the Iranian embassy or to attempt suicide attacks against Iranian diplomats," an Iranian diplomat, Ashja Zadeh, was quoted in Entekhab paper as saying.

Iranian diplomats were also quoted as complaining over the lack of security and protection provided for the Kabul embassy, but the reports did not say what, if any, emergency measures had been taken.

Contacted by AFP, foreign ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi refused to give any further comment, but said Iran was "investigating the threats".

Iran, which supplied the Taliban's opponents with military support after the militia captured Kabul in 1996, has a major diplomatic presence in Afghanistan.

First of those Persians are probably minorities in Iran like Kurds or Turks who though not Persian take very much pride in being Iranian.

Why would Israel want to bomb my country? Yea bomb my country along with one of the biggest Jewish populations in Asia. Israel's enemy is the Islamic Republic not the people. Israel and Iran need each other because we are surrounded in a sea of Arabs who want to destroy us.

You know, ND, sometimes I don't know why argue so much. Maybe it's because we agree on principles and not on details or perspectives. Humans tend to find slight deviations from their norms more disturbing than material differences, for instance countries with similar cultures often fight most fiercely. Someone once said you cannot even argue with a person unless you agree on certain principles.

But in any case, what I'm trying to say without totally hijacking this thread, is that I probably haven't made it clear enough here on the boards is that I think your attitude is greatly preferable to the current majority oppinion of your country. I think certain cultural differences and different experience mean we'll never be friends, but I certainly don't want to quarrel with you any more if you real feel the way you have displayed in this post. In fact I had already retired from the Mid East debate on these boards because I feel too emotionally on the issue to be able to debate it as rationally as I feel it should be done.
