Che Guevara : A Revolutionary Life by Jon Lee Anderson. 700+ pages of sheer information. The book not only deals with Che, but also looks into the cuban Revolution and events within the revolution. Its a brilliant read...may take a while to read but if you have the patience buy it. Also get the Motorcycle Diaries and Global Justice : Liberation and Socialism...its three of Che's most famous works. One is the Speech in Algiers, which was controversial as Che lambasted Soviet foreign policy, the next article is Socialism and Man in Cuba. The third title escapes me.

But i would recommend picking up these three books to begin with...there's so many books on Che.

The third is the message to the Tricontinental ("Create two, three, many Vietnams").

Other good titles include "The Che Guevara Reader" from Ocean Press- a collection of some of the most important writings by Che.
"Che Guevara: Economics and Politics in the Transition to Socialism"- a more detailed and difficult text by Cuban economist Carlos Tablada outlining Che's thoughts on political economy and economic poltics.

If you've got time to wait, mine should be out next year....... ;-)

But for a good intro, try the Jon Lee Anderson mentioned above. It's big, but gives a good detailed overview of Che.

Are any of these books available as ebooks? I find ebooks a lot more convenient.

I'm quite interested in "Che Guevara: A Revolutionary Life" :)

John Lee Anderson's biography is definately the first book you would want read about Che. The Motorcycle Diaries is also an awesome book to read. You will see the man who became Che.

a really excellent supplementary book to get is "guerrilla warfare."

make sure, however, that you get the scholarly resources edition because there are multiple publications of this work that are BAD. it can be a hard edition to look up by title, though, so look it up by the isbn (0842026789).

to start off, i would recommend first reading the anderson biography, then the motorcycle diaries, then guerrilla warfare, and then peruse through the ocean press edition of the che guevara reader.
