Oh, yeah, plenty of times, I got arrested ONCE, with a banana up my arse, TWICE!
There was this one time, in Bendican...uh, Bethle...uh, nevermind. In a men's locker-room, and there was like, these sherrif's, hangin' around, and I had some weed in this, like, lil' carry-on bag's, and they were just chattin'...with a german shepherd-dog, everything was cool until he startin' to bark at me when the drying fan led the weed-smell at the dog, and...
....You know the rest. Usual commode-story drill. Now, am I into the party, or whut!? :P

When I was younger I got caught robbing car signs, you know, the very attractive symbols of cars like Mercedes, BMW and Alpha Romeo............. I used to think the car dealers would buy them off me for about 20 pound. I nearly "plucked" a Porche once, that would have been nice. Just before I got caught I had nearly 50 collected. When my mother asked "where are you getting all those car signs" I would reply "some man around the corner is giving them to us". I know, I know, dont say it. It destroys the "character" of the car, there is nothing worse (of course there is) than seeing a brand new 05 BMW M3 with the symbol gone and the paint scratched from the butter knife. I got caught while "scanning" a clinic I "plucked" two days earlier. One of the workers noticed me and called the Garda. While under questioning my friend asked to go to the toilet. While in there he threw the spoon he used and a stolen car sign out the window, leaving me to take the raps with the evidence. In the end they couldnt press charges as I was below the legal age and none of those robbed, most of whom never knew I was arrested, asked me (my mother) to pay for damages. I still have some car signs in the attic to this day.
Another money making scam I tried, although never got caught, was selling raffel tickets around the doors. A nearby shop sold ticket books, with one thousand tickets a piece. I went around doors selling each ticket for 20 pence. I told the buyers that three quarters of the money would go to the local church and that the winner got a bottle of shampaign, this was all bullshit as you may have guessed. I sold roughly about half (500) tickets, that may sound impressive but most people bought more than one ticket, the greedy gluttons!!! which amounted to about 100 pound. Which, as a kid does, spends it immediatly, without ever having that 100 in their hand. I finally gave up when I ran out of houses to sell to and also, naturally, unless im a capitalist bastard, my consience got to me. After it was over, I almost got caught, when walking down the road, a buyer caught me by supprise and asked me who won the raffel? I kind of went into over load and created a name and address that never existed, with her reply being "Oh, I never heard of that now, I must ask my husband where that is.", her husband of course being the security guard in a local news agent, who, even to this day gives me strange looks and follows me around the store. I wouldnt blame him, a crook like me. The bizzare thing is, is that I bought the ticket book from that same shop.
Dont worry, I gave up stealing from fellow workers. Although theifing from the capitalist is justified. ;)

Haha, that's awesome.
The closest I've come to 'shutting down' anything is turning off the gas at fast food restaurants so they can't cook. It's so much fun, seeing the line of customers keep getting longer because the grills and shit don't work.

I got in trouble by the police as a little kid because I broke into a friends house.
Their sliding class door was un-locked and his mom was home. All I wanted was a popsicle. I suppose I could've knocked on the front door and just asked.
Hows that for practice ?

Never been arrested, but from time to time a cop does force me to entertain them. Probally the weirdest one and freakiest was when I was like a little kid, maybe 11 or 12. This copcar was like going 50 km/h or something, all the sudden he hits the brakes real hard, stopped in the middle of the road, came running and yelling towards me. Accusing me of putting up my middle-finger to him. :S
What made this all weirder is that he was going like 50 km/h, at a really dark winter night, I had thick gloves on, which made moving my fingers practicly impossible. Even if I had taken the effort to show him my middle-finger, then it still would have been impossible for him to see. I have to admit seeing that big fucker running and yelling towards me was intimidating.

Cops stopped me once and accused me and my friends of stealing "For Sale" Signs off of lawns and putting them on different ones. They had about three cars chase us down, i guess that was the big case they were working on that day. We didn't do it, but they still took our names and adresses.

the other day i broke off from a reclaim the streets party cos i badly needed to pee, went into the station, found toilets went in. no-one was in there, all the stalls were empty. come out, still no-one there, wash hands, go outside
two male cops standing there just staring at me, male toilets were on the other end of the corridor so they werent waiting to go into that
i was wearing patches that said stuff like 'lets fuck shit up' and 'were students not customers' but other then that i looked like any other person on the street. i just ignored them and kept walking, they followed me
freaked me out a bit cos i wasnt doing anything overly riotous or anything at reclaim the streets, and for them to send two cops to see what i was up to was scary, if laughable

I got arrested once for two joints, one behind each ear. The funny thing was that I was just strolling to my local convenient store but there were some cops out there lounging about eating Fritos and guzzling soda. They spotted the joints and hauled me into the slammer. These cops treat you like a criminal no matter what you do.

I've been detained a few times. Mostly because I was on probation and ran away from school or home. It's nothing to be proud of, though.
I remember one time I was at a party at a friends house one day after running away from school, twenty of us were crowded into a basement filled with smoke and pills and other stupid kid shit, the cops busted in and were looking specifically for me, I was so embarrassed because everyone else was forced to go home and got in trouble with their parents. I was high out of my mind as I was taken out in cuffs, laughing at the cops and telling them how pointless and irrelevent their existence was. Needless to say, they were not amused to the same extent I was.
After that I was sent away to what the government calls a "youth program", so I didn't have to face the humiliation of going back to school after an incident like that, but I did have to deal with drug withdrawels while living in a dirty, uncomfortable environment with 13 other juvinile detainees.
Another time I was living in a foster home I didnt like, so I ran and got away for three days before I was arrested. I was only caught because I went out for a pack of cigarettes, an idiot move considering I didnt even smoke.
There's more, but I don't need to tell those stories here.
Has any one else ever been what I like to call a prisoner of war? By that I mean have you ever been forced to live in a youth program or DYS or been in DSS custody? I have, and it would be nice to talk to people who understand what it means when I say prisoner of war.

When I was flying back to the states from London, the security took my passport and took me off to the side, and I had to wait for quite a while. More officers started gathering around, and I was getting kind of freaked out. The guy came back and gave me my passport. It turned out, there was another guy they were looking for who had the same name as me, haha. What are the odds?

I've been arrested before on an MIP, but I wasn't charged because I refused the breathelizer. The cop tried to convice me that because, at the time, I was 16 I had no legal rights and that I HAD to. But I still refused, but they cuffed me all the same and made me spend a night in jail. Nothing big. I got pulled over on traffic violation with heroin on me, but they didn't search me and they weren't suspicious.
Is this one of those things some suburbanite kid wants to know about these things because he wants to be rebellious? If so, grow up.

I know quite a few people who have been arrested for political reasons, and from them, I can say that if you ever do get arrested for politics, its very easy to get away from being charged.
You should tell them your name and address (for legal reasons) but other than that, don't say a word!. You will get the pigs so frustrated! Don't even say 'I have a right to remain silent,' just be silent.
Second, get your comrades to phone the pig sty constantly asking why you've been arrested and when you will be relaesed (must be arranged before).
The police will get so annoyed they will let you go! ;)

Never been arrested, but I've had a bit of a run-in.
Me and a couple friends were skateboarding in the street, so this cop drove up and told us we needed to get out of the road. Well, we did... for about 5 minutes. Then we started skating the road again. The cop came back, lights flashing/sirens blaring. Had us all line up, set our boards next to his car.
Then he took all of our names, addresses, phone numbers, all while he fondled his nightstick.
Once he got our info, he gave us a long lecture about respecting his authority and respecting the drivers on the road. Finally we got our boards and left.
Fucking scare tactics. There's no reason to have the lights and sirens on for 3 juveniles skating in the road. Attracted a lot of unwanted attention, too.
Damn you went all the way from London to nyc? That's commitment. But are you American?

yeah - but your friend will be inside all day. i've seen animal rights activists doing this - and keeping it up after the police told them that they'ld let their friend go once they left!!
playing nice in the station gets you out much faster - the only person you really want to have come down should be trained to work in a police liasion role and have copies of your identification with them (having no id on you means the police cant prove who you are and slows the process down). they should also have some snacks for you for when you get out (you'll be hungery) and a big hug waiting.

I was arrested for Breach of the Peace. Dragged off the street by the Riot Squad at a blockade of parliament. I wasn't charged though. I was only about 16 at the time so dragging me to court probably would have been a negative move. Only person arrested that day, even though some of my comrades had been lifted by the police a few times, carried to the side of the blockade where they were let go and promptly joined back in. Some of them were grabbed 8 or 9 times but I get grabbed once and get banged in a cell for it. They weren't too bad in the station. Even let me keep my Toblerone in the cell to eat =D and stupidly forgot to take my phone back off me when I went to get my dad's number out of it.

Risking arrest through non violent direct action, is more effective than non violent civil disobedience, I now feel.
lol that would be no-effect rather than less-than-no effect?
Uh.......Hmmmm.
Hands on direct action vs. silly ass-in-a-sling-martyrdom?
It's pretty clear that you can get a lot more done, with fewer consequences, by taking the initiative with direct action.
It 'gets the goods.' ;)

Yeah, I was there with him. We put up stickers all around the town and this cop in an unmarked car came up as we were in a bus terminal and caught us with a roll of stickers. The charge was "Criminal Mischeif" but we got off with the only punishment being that we had to write a letter of apology to the town.
Those were some fun times.

I've had a more than a few near misses where the cops threatened to take me off and did take in my male counterparts.
1. KKK meeting on the town hall steps - standing near the speakers podeum while he was speaking, getting all riled up- myself, a girl friend and a male same sex couple making out and disrupting his speech and almost starting a riot. (They were trying to kill us and the cops had to break it up) An ACT-UP protest
2. Standing on the capital steps waiting for the state senators to come out and threw pink voodoo dolls at them for voting down the first pro- AIDS funding in Louisiana. Another ACT-UP protest
3. Linking arms together to block a major thourough fare over a bridge in my home town because the city I lives in didnt reconize Dec 2 as World AIDS Day, 1988. (After that stunt they co-operated and covered outside art in black)
There are more, and I have them digitally documented, mostly from tv news broadcasts. But those 3 stick out in my memory the most. I know you guys dont want a resume so I'll stop. God I'm getting old.

Thanks you guys. A good friend of mine keeps telling me I should write my memiors, I keep telling him, I'm still making them!
In the beginning of those first days of AIDS, we really had to get creative with our protests, there were so many actions back then. Reagan was turning a blind eye to the whole epidemic.
A brief synopsis of the history of ACT-up

The only thing I would edit in the article is calling ACT-UP non-violent. It got pretty masty at times.

I was young.
It was a private school.
We were staunch anti-privatization.
Alcohol was involved.
So were bolt cutters and a crowbar.
And a police K-9 unit.
End of story.
I was youngish.
A dickhead macho man was involved.
Alcohol was again a factor.
Police brawler van responded.
Charges later dropped.
End of story.
I was kinda young.
Alcohol was a prime factor, again.
Saw a guy try to slip a pill into a drink.
Needless to say...
Police responded.
Caution issued for anti-social behaviour.
Violence related charges dropped.
Crown was very understanding.
End of story.
Driving home.
Late at night.
Police were bored.
Decided I was Mexican (I shit you not.).
Divisional Van got called down.
Spent 30 minutes with the gentlemen from Sandringham Police Station.
Got let out without apology.
End of story.
I was mature.
An airport was the scene.
In a protest I had been.
Custom's got involved.
A train ticket stub saved my ass.
End of story.

I get pulled over by cops a couple times a week, when I'm walking home from work (it's like 2:00 am).
One time it was full on raining and I was drenched, and cops came down with their flashing lights, asked what I was doing, then pissed off!
They didn't even offer an under-age teenager a ride! :o

Of course not, that would require them to show compassion.

Ive never been picked up by the police but there have been quite a few times where I've ran from them and gotten away. I guess eating too many doughnuts makes you run slow or something
