This is the man who is responsible for the survival of this planet and if it wasnt for him, we wouldnt be here. The story of Vasilli Arkipov is that Kruschev, the russian premier, ordered nuclear missiles to be fired at America during the cuban missile crisis and as submarine commander, it was up to vasilli to flick the switch but he didnt. He effectively saved the world...if the weapons had been fired, i very much doubt that i would be here, or you my fellow comrades would be here.

Now if it had been non-chemical weapons then hell yeah fire on America! But unfortunately, you can fire nuclear weapons or atom bombs on America but with the winds, it's gonna make its way back to you!

because i wasnt sure where i should post it. Can one of the mods please move this to history?

And i wasnt praising Kruschev, i was praising Arkipov for standing up to Kruschev and saying "no".

i dont think kruschev ordered that, cuz if he did he would've launched ALL his rockets, to try and knock the yanks out before they can retaliate.

That is a possibility...i found the information in Noam Chomskys book "hegemony or survival" and i've gotta say, i believe him. He's one of the most respected professors and writers of this generation so why would he sully his reputation with poor information?

dont know, but think about it, it just seems stupid as hell to just launch like what? 4 rockets? when you've got 3.000, and the enemy at least that much and you know damn sure he'll launch them all as retaliation.

it seems stupid to launch ANY nuclear weapons. Sure its gonna obliterate the country targeted but the fallout is gonna make its way back to you.

I dont know, i see what your saying but even so, standing up to your premier is a pretty brave thing to do, he could have been thrown to the wall and shot. Who knows, he could have been.
