I've seen on a few places on the web (among which are wikipedia and che-lives.com) that Guevara was appointed commander of the La Cabana prison and that during his command (untill 63)[1] prisoners were executed (were they all infamous acts against the public/were of Batista's oppressing police[2]). Furtheremore - Amarndo Valladares was imprisoned (with what charges? [3]) and after he'd been released, through ''international pressures'' [Reagan and France], he said that Guevera oversaw tortures and executions[4].

This all the while traveling to Russia, China and overseeing Cuba's agrarian and economic revolution.[5]

Could someone separate the fact from ficton in here? Please base your remarks with some solid (as possible) data, because I'm already quite confused here...

Any help would be appreciated :)

P.S. I am aware that under revolution and war time some not so good acts are committed, and that no one's perfect and so on - I just want to get as much facts as straight as possible

Valladares was convicted for having bombmaking equipment, and was a former Bastiano police chief. He claims to have been tortured so badly he was paralyzed from the waist down, but staged a "miraculous" recovery upon his release - where he became an apologist for US abuses in El Salvador at the UN.

Valladares is a wanker. Period.

sources contradict each other, some say Guevara was responsible for about 500 deaths (executions) others say somewhere near the 2000 while the Historical Atlas of the Twentieth Century cites somewhere between 5,000-12,000 people were killed right after the Cuban Revolution by the Castro government

The matter is whether he was in charge of the prison where they were executed. And also what crimes had they committed and were they tortured.

I guess nothing can be proven beyond any doubt - still more information could help.

About that Valladares, he does seem rather a douchebag, doesn't mean he is necessarily lying. I couldn't find anywhere him mentioning Guevara, maybe Castro alone - and the man's been blabbing on about it everywhere ever since...

Thanks though :)
