8 Rage Classics, 2 covers, pick what you think is the definitive RATM song.

Wake up, which is one of only truly 3 good Rage songs, all the rest are shockingly mediocre or just shit.

Kick out the Jams is probably the best, but I have had way too much fun with Killin in the the name of. Such a funn song to play and to sing, great at gigs and just...I don't know so many good gigs have been ended by that song.

I love rage so it's extremely difficult to pick one song but recently my favorite song has been, Bulls on Parade so I chose that. My favorite song by them changes all the time though.

If I had to pick from any of Rage's songs it would be Ashes In The Fall. That's my favorite by far. From this list though, I'd say Sleep Now In The Fire.

If you approach anything like that you almost certainly won't like it. I haven't listened to much in about 5 years, but I stick them on for old times sake every now and then, give them a go.

You aren't, but if you ever feel the need to listen to rage, then the only album worth your valuable bandwidth is the original self titled album, the others are complete shit, well actually that’s a lie, Battle for LA is shit bordering on just plain poor where as Evil Empire is so bad it makes me want to kill my self... or Zach DeLaRocha anyway.
On a serious note, words really do fail to describe how utterly unoriginal, uninspiring and totally disappointing that album is. If there was ever a band to support the stereotype that bands with good first albums produce shit second albums, Rage are (were) the blokes to see.

My favourite RATM song is actually take the power back, but for the sake of this I voted Killing In The Name of as it was the first rage song I heard and it's usually the first thing that comes into my head if someone says Rage Against The Machine

Sleep Now in the Fire, is an adrenaline junkies song man. It's so deep, dark, but
yet so true. Actually the whole Battle of Los Angelas album is incredibly inspiring.
It really grabbed me by the POOH POOH, got me jumpin, and gave goose bumps.

Oh god, you don't know what you are talking about do you? Rage's lyrics are shit compared to most other leftist bands I have ever heard and considering the bollocks SOAD (who for the record are a much better band than Rage ever were) have come out with in the past, that’s a hell of a challenge. Rage just pulled the "We are really pissed off" act, they had no subtlety in their lyrics or even real artistic merit. You should listen to some Bob Dylan, John Lennon, the Clash, etc if you are after really great lyrics, failing that check out some Manic Street Preachers, The levellers or Chumbawamba. These bands/artists write great, poignant lyrics not to mention they possess superior musical skill to what Rage ever had, with the possible exception of Tom Morello, who writes great riffs. Hell Rage were much better when they became Audioslave, at least Audioslave don't pretend to be anything other than what they are, a pop-rock band, which is exactly what Rage was. Only at least Audioslave have a much better vocalist now, a legend in fact.

Ashes in the Fall would be my pick too. Although I'm also very fond of RATM's nod to the Grapes of Wrath. The Ghost of Tom Joad.
ASHES IN THE FALL
A mass of hands press on the market window
Ghosts of progress
Dressed in slow death
Feeding on hunger
And glaring through the promise
Upon the food that rots slowly in the aisle
A mass of nameless at the oasis
That hides the graves beneath the master's hill
Are buried for drinking
The rivers water while
Shackled to the the line at the empty well
This is the new sound, just like the old sound
Just like the noose wound, over the new ground
This is the new sound, just like the old sound
Just like the noose wound, over new ground
Listen to the facist sing
"Take hope here
War is elsewhere
You were chosen
This is Gods land
Soon we'll be free
Of blood and mixture
Seeds planted by our Forefathers hand"
A mass of promises
Begin to rupture
Like the pockets Of the new world kings
Like swollen stomachs In Appalachia
Like the priest that fucked you As he whispered holy things
A mass of tears have transform the stones now
Sharpened on suffering
And woven into the slings
Hope lies in the rubble of this rich fortress
Taking today what tomorrow never brings
This is the new sound, just like the old sound
Just like the noose wound, over new ground
This is the new sound, just like the old sound
Just like the noose wound, over the new ground
This is the new sound, just like the old sound
Just like the noose wound, over the new ground
Ain't the new sound, just like the old sound
Look at the noose now, over the, over the, over the burning ground
Ain't it funny how the factory doors close
Round the time that the school doors close
Round the time that the doors of the jail cells
Open up to greet you like the reaper
Ain't its funny how the factory doors close
Round the time that the school doors close
Round the time that a hundred thousand jail cells
Open up to greet you like the reaper
Oh, oh
Oasis
This is no oasis
This is the new sound, just like the old sound
Just like the noose wound, over the new ground
This is the new sound, just like the old sound
Just like the noose wound, over the new ground
Like ashes in the fall
Like ashes in the fall

Absolutly, an they have artistic merit. People are still wondering about Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds, decades after the song was released.

If it is 'just an opinion', how can it be 'senseless', how can a completely subjective view be senseless, as if there is some way of measuring an opinions worth?
If of course you are suggesting that it is senseless, as an alternative word for incomprehensable, then please explain how you have managed to make enough sense of it, to pass comment on my views on Chris Cornell and the Clash? You clearly have made sense of my post.
Try again.

wake up
ratm's lyrics may not be as subtle, but listening to their music does inspire unenlightened fools such as myself to get up and be active
if i want to think deeply then i would listen to those bands/artists you mentioned as well as heaps others, but if i want to get angry then ratm does wonders

I know there were plenty of suggestions for songs that I had overlooked (Wake Up, Know Your Enemy, etc.) and I just want to say it was extremely difficult to choose just 8 tracks from Rage but I did my best.
Well, it seems that's it;

No one has mentioned DARKNESS! That's a great song!
'They say we'll kill them off, take their land, and go there for vacation!'
I love rage.. their songs are definately inspirational.. however they are nationalists.... it't pretty evident in some of their songs, ex- wake up. I don't support any kind of nationalism- black, white, whatever.
They rock, they've got something to say- I'm listening to it!
PS- I voted for killing in the name.
