I'm also in the SWP. I wouldn't say it's meaningless but I agree for a need to unify. Apart from secterian bickering I haven't found one sensible reason why the parties can't unify.

There is no point in uniting as one organisation just for the sake of uniting, because this is always doomed to failure ==> See Socialist Alliance and in future look out for RESPECT, although this isnt actual a uniting of leftists, rather of the SWP and the reactionary organisation the MAB.

Of course we must unite, but under what banner? Leftism? we should work together of course, but until when? How can we unite if one group calls for no vanguard and another for it? How can we unite if one calls for revolution another for reformism?

The only way to unite is to discuss, to prove the strength of ideas, and these ideas will eventually become the most powerful, and the weak will wither away surely, as human beings we do work in a logical way i presume...

I'm in Liverpool, been damn inactive recently (me, not the party) but I'm getting active again from thursday.
