Rascism in school

Recently, I have been paying a little more attention to rascism among people that go to my school, and I have realized that it is actually somewhat of a problem here. For example, a "popular" girl recently called me the Anti-Christ for not expressing homophobic views (I am actually Christian, lol) and a number of less-intelligent people have told me of their views reguarding the Iraqis and Afghanis as less than human and inferior. Two things: What should I do about this and have you noticed similar incidents if you are indeed in school of some kind.

the student body of my school follows a strict "Us and Them" policy. It's the whole clique thing, just like grade school. There's no way around it, everybody has their own prejudices. There's always going to be cliques and descriminations whether it be gays, or blacks, iraqis etc. i actually know a group of people who descriminate harshly against protestants regardless of race. it's sad but it's something i think i have to live with.

I find that in my school, there isn't so much racism as there is ignorance on the issue. You get the usual racist jokes but most people would get along fine with another race.

first off, being called an "anti-christ" is not a racist comment.

second, these ppl are just odd, and its not MAINLY their fault either. its the media, they make them fear the "brown sand people" and thus they fear them. and they dont know what they are talking about so soince they dont know, they judge. its a problem everywere and its all da media's fault.

Leveling systems seem racist to me. I'm in the highest level History class. I am one of three black students in the class out off 30 students. Even though about 60% of my school is Black. Either this says that most Black people are stupid, which I seriously doubt as some of the people in lower levels are quite intelligent or else they aren't motivated to do better. They are alienated from the white students, and are forced to be looked at as lower by the upper level white kids. This is pretty foolish to me.

This is quite rampant. My school seems to like segregating people. In addition; they don't care much about racism. I got a lot of crap last year. Once some students threatened to kill me because I look Arabic. Naturally; no one in the school gave a damn.

In my school people seem to be prejudice, but subconciously. They are very judgemental a and sometimes racist. Yes, it is the media and the mediocre American mentality shared among all Americans.

My school in Korea didn't have too many racists, but there's always the usualy racial comments. There are lots of racial comments, racists, and ignorance in the new school I go to. And things like what MDP said, killing all "Sand Niggers" after 9/11. Or racist remarks like that. Pretty sick. I've seen some nazi wannabe bastards in my new school, yes I'd like to bash their skulls in now.

The city I live in and the school i go to is where the country and the city meet. so you have red necks on one side and the other suburban rich kids . My school has racial wars between blacks and rednecks alot.

I remember last year during sept 11 some pakistani guy was killed in the middle of the street , and my mother called that night and became really worried and told me to tell people i was either from israel or spain.. no one asked where i was from, and even if they did i would simply tell them im persian. i had no trouble with anyone.

I have to agree with most of you that Its not that its racism but rather ignorance. the people that go to my school are the most ignorant people i have ever met. listening to these people talk about some world issues is so sad its funny. I swear i sometimes want to grab their heads and bash it into the desk for the stupid things they say.

I've never heard dune coon before but something i hear my friend get called a lot is camel cowboy. It's really dumb and it's extremely aggrivating. I told him to go to the dean about it before but he keeps telling me that he's already tried that. I have the sneaking suspicion that our dean of students has considered him a "dune coon" just like the rest of these morons.
Lately there's been a whole lot of kids shaving their heads and calling themselves nazis, and i've been getting shit about it because i usually have my hair cut short (not shaved). And of COURSE as soon as the dean found out there were NAZIS in his school he had us all sent to the counselor(?) and i had to explain that i was in no way affiliated with the "nazis" at my school. It was an embarassment. What about the people that hate on kids that look arabic? Did they get talked to? no, nothing happens to them. There's no justice in schools these days. Maybe it's time i made some damn justice..

My school isnt racist. Just the regular racist jokes from ignorance, but most times if some one says it in my presence they take it back after i ask them questions why they make such a remark and then i compare them with hitler and other racist bastards.

But i would want to know a lil more about racism in america. My only source is the media wich is in hands of the americans. And i do know that america isnt a meltingpot like they call it cuz of the race riots.

I would like to say im persian to from afganistan. Kind a sad that i havent seen one afgan here while there were so many in the moscow of the soviet union

there is no open or outright racism but you can tell by observation that it is normal to stay with your own kind, as it were....

there are inter-racial friendships but considering the ratio of whites to black, there are not enough.

There are a lot of racist people on my school. And almost everyone stays with his own kind too, like Jaha said. But the problem is, the foreing people on my school have more power (they don't out number the racist, but they have more "friends" ) then the racist people. Some people come out for being racist, but most just keep their mouths shut and only tlak with their own kind about it. Sometimes it goes wrong, but most of the time the figths aren't serious and since I'm an anti racist, I never have problem with the foreign people. Some of them are even my friends. And why not?

In my school in suburban Wisconsin (Bleh... I guess not as bad as some suburban cultures...but still), people say stuff like "I'm not racist, but..." ,which they follow up with something incredibly ignorant. --Which sucks, because sometimes I get dragged into it. And then I end up being the mediator between some dumbfuck white kid wanting to kick some mung kids ass just because he was forced to move here and got fucked over by his (and our) government. We have lots of racism at my school, they its typically between Australians or otherwise known as "yobbo's" and Australian-Europeans or otherwise known as "wogs". Aboriginies and Australian-Asians are also discriminated.

A lot of kids call muslims and arabs rag heads. One of my teahers is pretty rascist, on of them preaches the teaching of jesus (it's a public school). We had a subsitute that spent an hour and a half talking about the "horrors of islam" whith a muslim in the class room.

My school has a bit of racism, but since I bulked up/ate fast food, people have been quite fast in retracting racist statments after a threat of force.
I even managed to scare a 18 year old (I am 15) after he went up to a 8 year old boy of african origin and used the 'n' word because the boy was annoying the fucking 18 year old in some tiny way. He actually called me an arab and jumped on me but I punched the racist in the back of the head a few times... I wanna start an anti-fascist action in Australia :)!

I was arguning with this bloke a couple of weeks ago. He goes to my uni, but this took place at a party. He was complaing about how "the gooks" have all the sports cars and how they talk their "ching chong chung" on the trains etc. I calmly told him exactly why he was being a total "fuckwit". Anyway it ended with him wanting to kill me. Ah well no skin of my nose (hell, it could have been more than skin) if he is a total fuckwit.

Seriously though, Melbourne seems to suck, every Victorian I talk to that isn't a leftist seem nationalistic in that they believe the only true Australian place is Victoria. Yet these people still support the american-isation of our culture through our participation in their affairs (but are they really 'their' affairs, I mean what business does the U$A have in Iraq?)

Racism doesn't exist per se...however it's noticeable how few non-whites there are in college compared to private skool (at private skool they were all rich foreigners, whereas at college, they're mostly of English descent).

My school is full of racism. Most white students I know believe that the Aboriginies are an inferior race. Then they deny being racist.

i think most of these people just dont realize taht they are racist. They are being controlled by their media. They dont realize they are being racist at all. They feel they are really just regurgitating feelings they get from their friends. Like at my school, there is only one really rascist guy, and this guy became peoplular early on in school. So he has alot of friends. All his friends are influenced by him because he is cool. They feel that whatever he does is ultimatley the right thing 2 do. And alot of people do it without noticing it, because most people wh are insulteedd dont show it, so the racists are never reprimanded. This cycle defintily needs to stop.
