Do you count Memphis and Atlanta as the "deep" south?

I'm in Harrison, Arkansas. Homeland of the KKK.

I guess you'd consider this the "deep south".

Its pretty disheartening. But I'll live. I suppose. <_<

I'm interested in the possiblities of Southern Farmers backing the communist cause...they would benefit a lot from it if they would be a little more open minded...any one got any articles on this?

Where, pray tell, are you in Arkansas?

And as for your teacher, I'm sorry you got on from Harrison. It sucks here. :(

I live near Fayetteville, my town is alreayd under the effects of "suburbanization" because of the growth in Fayetteville.

Also this guy seems to the most leftist adult in the entire city, and he plays guitar too.

I know where I live isn't particularly Southern (though the Confederate flag displays leaves you wondering every now and again) but the farmers and factory workers in Indiana could really use it as well. Too bad we're a staunch GOP state.

I'm in Alabama.

The biggest obstacle to the left here in the South is backwards attitudes--fundamentalist religion, racism, sexism, homophobia, etc.

Yeah, that's the way it is in Texas.

The cool thing, though, is that further down south, a little further from where I live, there's a revival of the Zapatista movement. I know it's carrying up here a bit, because I've spoken to several and am friends with a few.

But other than that, Texas is just a regurgitation of Bush-shit propoganda.

Oh yeah, Austin actually has a pretty decent anarchist/communist movement. So that's pretty cool.

Here's a start:
Refuting ultright demagogy aimed at farmers...and laying out a socialist program to benefit working farmers. (http://www.themilitant.com/1996/6010/6010_18.html)

U.S., Cuban farmers meet. (http://www.themilitant.com/2000/6408/640858.html) Mostly farmers from Georgia and Florida, at that.

There's a booklet called "Farmers Face the Crisis of the 1990s" by Doug Jenness which has a lot of good facts and explains a socialist farm program.
