In simple ways.

Socialism still beleives in a form of government.
Communism does not.

Socialism advocates classes (although with more equality)
Communism gets rid of any idea of a class.

Socialism is capitalism without the capitalists.
Communism is not.

There are two major differences (there are an unlimited number of smaller differences, but most all of them stem from these two major ones):

Socialism is a system within a state (a 'semi'-permanent state).
Communism comes about once this state withers away.

Socialism simply tries to 'overthrow' the rule of capital. (capital still exists)
Communism abolishes capital.

No.

A socialist sociatey is a central-organized goverment controll over the sociatey. With high taxes and a welfare system. A communist sociatey is a state-less sociatey, where everything is run by the collective and no induvidual is above another.

No.
Socialism is the dictatorship of the proletariat that abolishes the wage-system and institutes public property as opposed to private property.

In short, ya.
