Is it true that Cubans are not allowed near the tourist attractions, within pools, or rent a hotel room, or even enter a resort, in Cuba?

Fidel doesn't "give" anyone anything. Cuba is not a despotism run entirely buy and for one man!
The old hotels were opened up to all Cubans after the revolution. It is true that the new, tourist only hotels do not admit Cubans. This does not mean that Cubans and tourists can't and don't mingle, they do.
This law serves the purpose of limiting prostitution by not allowing cuban women into the rooms of tourists, and it limits the hustlers that would hang around such places.

Uh yeah.....when we were in Cuba last year, we got to know a Cuban family we met on the beach, they were kind enough to share their fresh fish with us, and a nice bit of rum! :D We even went to their house and they came to our hotel to meet us and hang out. Fun had by all. :)

I heard from a person who has visited Cuba that there are "tourist only" stores, the Cubans ask tourists to buy them products because they are not allowed to buy them themselves.
Yep, that's socialism alright.

First off the reason why they wouldn't be allowed in the hotels in the first place is because it is one of the few things in Cuba that isn't nationalized. So that means that it is the bosses of the hotel who decide if they want regular Cubans in their hotels or not. So I don't think Castro should be blamed for this type of thing happening.

Well, why doesn't he nationalize them?
