So, I have been really considering what I can do to further the leftist cause while at school this year and I came to an idea I have been pondering on for a while.

Ive decided to establish an organization at my school called the Student Left.
Itll be a group of Marxists, Leninist, Stalinist, Trotskyist, Council Communist, anarcho-communist, anarcho-syndicalist, no label anarchist, democratic socialist, and general leftist that fight for some common ground issues like democratic management of business and schools, workers and students rights, and anti-war demonstration.

Im posting about this because Im wanting other leftist students to do so in their school.
Itd be great if you and two or more friends established one, so far there is only the General Rules (http://www.geocities.com/studentleft/gr.html) that organize the organization and Id like to keep it that way.

If youd like to start a Student Left organization at your school please just do!
You dont even have to use the name :).

I would like to see what my older comrades have to say, perhaps suggestions and the like.

Cool, I've been working on the same thing! Out of curiosity, what grade are you in? I'm just going into high school.

I'm probably going to call it the RYM, Revolutionary Youth Movement. I have ties with a group of youth that gets together in basements and sewers and practices fighting (think Fight Club). They want to overthrow the government, but they're more into fighting than politics, I'm planning on mobilizing them to start out my new group.

One idea I have for groups like ours is to use them as LOCs (Local Organizing Committes) (http://usnpc.net/local.html) to go to the 17th World Festival of Youth and Students. The 16th is going on right now, with Chavez hosting it in Venezuela, so obviously we couldn't go to that one. Does anyone have any idea what country is hosting the 17th? If it was another Latin American country, it'd be way easier than say, Vietnam or Angola. It couldn't be Cuba, that'd make it too hard for the US delegation.

Awesome, like I said if you want to be part of the Student Left all you have to do is follow the General Rules.

I'll be going into 10th grade, softmore year finally which means the hazing stops for atleast a few years.

Sounds great, I'll see what can be done up here but I don't expet much, since there's quite few leftists over here.

I'll be a senior this coming year, but unfortunately I have yet to come across any far lefties at my school (plenty of Democrats, sadly). I've my hopes set on doing something like this in college, though. I'd atleast like to get a weekly discussion group or something. Right now, this website is basically the only place I have to converse with fellow anti-capitalists.

I'm curious as to the expected size of your group, rotmutter.

The expected size of my group?
Well at my high school three or four people, but I plan to hit hard at what most of the Democrat types here listen to.
I hope to interest them in socialism, even democratic socialism, because long before I was a communist I was a conservative Democrat and before I was a communist I was a democratic socialist.

Careful, Rotmutter. Democrats often prove to be just a pro-capitalist as their Republican counterparts. But if you can change their minds, more power to you, man!

When I started out at my middle school, there were two other leftists, one from China. Neither of them bothered converting anybody though. I'm a big activist on the other hand, while I was in middle school I converted around a dozen people, mostly fellow punks. I published some socialist articles in the school newspaper, the last one was banned for being too radical.

Did it say that workers should democraticly own the means of production :)?
I'm going to have a hard time since most people here are hardline social conservatives but have social democratic ideas on economy.

But I know my efforts won't be fruitless, because we're in a time when alternative ideas will shape the future.

This sounds great even though I can hardly remember my HS years. There was a book though titled "How old will you be in 1984" that was a collection of writings from underground HS newspapers. If you can harass a librarian into interlibrary loaning it I know you'd get pumped and also get a lot of good ideas.
It's not all about the big ideas but about rebellion against the stupefying atmosphere in HS. You know get people pissed off about schedules and shitty textbooks and crap food in the cafeteria (who says I can't remember my HS years) meet people where they are and show them that they can change things. I'd say good luck but luck has nothing to do with this it's science.

Thats a negatory in my school, comrade. I believe there are three political students, me and two others. I'm the leftist. The other I believe is a liberal, the the other is a conservative (We're in Canada). He's pro bush, and I love seeing him whore himself to them with his two armbands "Bush" "Cheney". He got booed off stage at a student politics activity him and the other girl went to over Christmas break.

All my friends couldn't be bothered with politics, and I'm yet to see anyone else who thinks like me.

Hello,

I am trying to work on the same thing here is Pakistan. I suggest that you communicate with the communist party in your area and coordinate with them.

Most people are "apolitical" because they really don't know what politics are.
That is why before a group of any student leftists can be established where there is no base it is up you to educate your peers.

I tried building a high school, university organization with some comrades on these forums last year; everything sort of died; we were raising money for a newspaper, I mean EVERYTHING was in planning and it went PLOP.

Sigh, I'll give this is a try anyways.

I was thinking of trying this but the vast majority of the people at my school have no idea about anarchism or even socialism/communism. Some actually thought I was a nazi

That is the whole point of the Student Left!
To educate your peers who know nothing of socialism and worker-liberation!

Are any of the people who are trying to start this type of organisation, a student in England? I'm english, all you guys seem to be from the western side of the world.

I'm an American, but the international struggle is just as important as the national struggle. Try sparking some real socialist ideas around your school as opposed to Labour's Third Way -- aka fascism.

I was thinking the very same thing. I think it would be great if we were to start chapters worldwide for student leftist movements.
