i wasnt sure where this should go, but i think this forum is the best for it.
while at school, i have seen many posters for meetings of the International Socialist Organization (ISO), but have not been able to attend any of them, as they are always at the same time and same day, and i have a class that conflicts with it. last night i went to a debate of 5 professors on Iraq (the anti-war professors came out dominatley, YES!) and one of the debating professors is a member of ISO, and i bought one of their papers outside of the lecture hall called Socialist Worker. tonight is another one of their meetings, and im going to ditch my class, and attend this meeting. i was wondering what you guys thought about this organization, as i do not know much. i know of one person i could talk to that goes to school with me that is a member, but he is a few years my elder, and i hardly ever see him (and when i do, its usually during a presentation or riding on the bus going the opposite way of me). thank you to those who reply.

It sounds good. I would attend something like that if it were to emerge around here. It seems that the political people I know online are my only friends nowadays.

damn those conflicts!
thats why next quarter i only have one discussion during the evening, everything else is in the morning or mid-day.
Actually, when i wrote this, i was hoping you would have an opinion about the ISO, as i remember you being knowlegable about different organizations. i had a few other people in mind, and thats why i didnt send you a PM, but i hope i can get a few people to tell me their own opinions, or even personal experience with them.
im leaving for their meeting in a few minutes, got to catch the bus.

I've heard good things about 'em...if a professor you respect is a member then maybe you should check 'em out.
On second thought, I know a political science professor who is a member of the Progressive Labor Party...if that means anything to you ;)

I am part of this organization. I encourage you to get involved. They ask a $1 donation per week and give you Socialist Worker papers to sell. They receive NO government or community funding (of course not, they're 'evil' Reds), and they rely on their members.

ok, i just got back from the ISO meeting. I talked with the organizers of the meeting, and from them i recieved a good feeling. a short discussion was a part of the meeting about some of the thoughts of the ISO, as well as future actions, meetings, etc. I am going to be meeting for coffee (chai tea for me) to talk with the main organizers here relatively soon so that i can have a more in depth talk about our thoughts.
I did buy, for the second time, one of the papers called Socialist Worker for a dollar. i read he first few pages of it while waiting at the bus stop and on the ride back to my dorm, and it seems like a great paper.
Insurrection: how long have you been involved with ISO? what types of things are you involved with doing? im very curious, so write however much you feel is necessary.

Hey hey people, what country is the ISO in(the one you are talking about?)
Over here in NZ group names are fucked up, we have a Communist League (corporation) who are related to the SWP in America, not the SWP in Britain plus we have a ISO and a group called the SWO (socialist worker org.). the SWO sell a paper called the 'Socialist Worker' its all a great big mess. I think what happened is the ISO and SWO were together but split up and one group took the name but didnt stay joined to the overseas group.
Anyway the SWO over here say vote for our green party who are alright, but pretty capitalist one the other hand, so why would these red say vote for them? Who knows.
