What is the meaning of the expression "March separately, strike together"?

Wow, that's a doozy. I think what it's trying to say is that, though the workers are in different positions and in different unions, their goal is the same: the appropriation of the means of production, as well as the destruction of the bourgeoisie. Alas, I could be wrong, but that's what I think it means.
Edit: ah, now I know! It is used to refer to the international labour movement as a whole, and how the different Communist/Socialist parties play a part in it/

This phrase is commonly associated with the Communist International's understanding of the united front. To "march separately" means you participate in events under your own banners, with your own program, platform, literature and slogans, not someone else's. To "strike together" means you make a working agreement with others who want to accomplish the same goal as you to get it done -- often times something as simple as agreeing where to strike, when to strike and whom to strike.
