Try best piece of propaganda ever. If you can't get down to Charlie Sheen and Patrick Swazye launching a guerilla war against Russian and Cuban invaders, I'm sorry, you're hopeless.

The movie itself was poorly constructed, acted, and a turkey all around. Cubans and Russians invaiding the USA... oh now thats bullshit.
BraVO CHANNEL in Canada had a blurb about the use of this movie to stir up the emotion of people in the US against the Democrats in the 80's...as well as to discourage pro-Leftist groups from forming.I believe G.W Bush also used the term "red dawn" in one of his military strikes against Iraq...if I'm not mistaken.
BraVo also used the movie to show the opposing side: a documentry on Fidel Castro/ and the nation of Cuba. The interview was very well put together and showed Fidel as a human being....and his close connection with the Canadian people. It was a very touching story...Fidel gets emotional.

Reminds me of that game I had for Xbox. In a parrell universe, Russia is actually the dominating state. Mexico is communist, and I think Canada and America are the last democratic holdouts. Then they invade on all sides hitting america. Russian accents and re-education was great.

If there was ever a film to play the key element in American propoganda, its Red Dawn. When watching this film, I asked myself "Would typical Americans really be able to put up such an organized resistance?" If the Soviets, Cubans, and Nicaraguans really penetrated that deep into American soil, their first priority would be to eliminate US military bases, which would've given the armed forces a devestating blow, not to mention the ability to get around US defense systems. These patriotic "we'll kick their ass" type of people who rely heavily on the US systems and armed forces would never put up a stiff resistance. Panic and mass confusion would surely overcome, especially a bunch of school spirit morons who've only shot at animals.
Red Dawn carried a deeper message besides staunch anti-Communism. The intoduction said that the Greens were elected and complied with the anti-Nuclear pacifists of Europe. The US removed the missiles which led to NATO's dissolution leaving the USA to stand alone. Therefore the message is: "Those Commies are blood thirsty psychopaths, and want to invade. This is what will happen if we let those liberals in the White House".
But its a good laugh! Considering if the pacifists were elected, and NATO dissolved. The Soviets wouldn't need to invade. It would only prove the failure of Capitalism.

it's not propaganda......it's a FUCKING MOVIE!!!!
Film makers feed off of peoples' fears....in the cold war everyone was afraid of Ivan invading. I think it's a great movie of it's time (1980's) you have to just be able to laugh at the idea that people thought somthing like this was possible. The creaters weren't trying to create a great propaganda piece....they were trying to make MONEY.
Hey, i like explosions and guns i've paid to see it. i guess they did somthing right in their marketing strategy.
Think from any other perspective...if they were Soviet high school students fighting the invading Americans. Everyone on this board would treat it like a masterpiece depicting the US's imperialism. But no, everyone takes a movie that is made to entertain to a whole different level about politics.
It's a fucking movie...enough said
I think that answers your RPG question too

Perhaps. However, I'm sure it happened after the Russian Revolution when the USA, Britian, and the Western Imperialists occupied Soviet Russia fighting along side the White Army.
The purpose of Red Dawn was to make a political statement through entertainment, not merely just a typical 80's action movie.
Considering the mentality of school spirited youths in the USA, they wouldn't know an AK-47 from their jock straps. This to me makes Red Dawn totally laughable.

Propaganda is propaganda. If I saw that movie, not only would I credit on its shitty action scenes of when the Soviet Students learned how to use RPGs, I would clearly put on it that it was a propaganda movie, perhaps one of the worst because no one would really side on it except for us. Alot of movies try to push more of a point than just its a fucking movie. Was Pulp Fiction just a fucking movie? Was Equilibrium just a fucking movie? If you said yes to either of those, please leave the internet.
