Simply put. They have great tutorials and what not.
To put on the shirt, just have a hammer & sickle, or something simple to start.

Heres what I do:
Buy a cheap white t-shirt and a black sharpie. Take the sharpie and write whatever you want on the shirt. It usually lasts a long time.
Just don't mess up! ;)

i buy something like plastic laminating stuff to make stencils, make stencil, use acryllic paint to stencil on to a plain t-shirt. I did one of ulrike meinhof, and am quite proud of it. I also did one of sub-commandante marcos one which im not so fond of. i dont think his image is as iconic as hers.

I don't think spraypaint on a t-shirt would look very good, but I could be wrong. I know that they sell special paint designed to be used on clothes/t-shirts at craft stores with all the baisic colors (blue, black, red, green, yellow, white). I've used those a couple times. They don't washout and they look better than something written with a sharpie.

Go to any punk rock community website, or ask the local punk kids in your area. The subculture is huge on DIY shit like that, and most punk kids make their own leather jackets, jean jackets, vests and other things.

AK press do some really cheap t-shirts. There is a UK base and USA one. The USA has more T-shirts although if you're in the UK you have to import them and that’s expensive. But I've got a T-shirt from the UK AK Press site. I got a t-shirt with a copper and a little girl on it and the t-shirt says in child writing "Mommy said not to talk to bastards".
Theirs a really good Zapatista shirt on the UK AK press site that has a picture of a Zapatista and it says "Viva Zapata".

Very nice stencil. The acryllic (or whatever paint you used) is sort of... lacking. But that's cool because I like that look. Especially on actual DIY shirts.

Yeah, my way gives a very DIY look. Im fine with that but not everyone is. Thing is, I skimp on acryllic as I dont like to use too much for economic reasons. Plus I use a brush to paint it on instead of a roller thing which would give a more even spread. That would also take up a fair amount of acryllic.
Plus it always cracks, so its good for the DIY look like I said.
I dunno about spray paint, I'll try it out though it sounds like it'd fade. I'm told it does work by an unreliable source.

I tried the spray paint, it looks pretty nice, I it was hard not to over spray(which I did) but I hear you can get it out, I also did the accrylic, and I like that also, so both are good in my opinion,( I did a black hammer and sickle on this nice vest thing that rich kids wear you know to piss em off, and I did a red A with circle on a black hoodie)

Doesn't acrylic paint wash off? I use fabric paint that you fix by ironing. But spraypaint is a great idea- much easier than struggling not to wrinkle the fabric while painting. :P
I've made a shirt with my avatar on it; and the slogan "Your body is a battleground."
A skull and crossbones where John Howard is the skull.
And... I'm sure I've made more.
And remember to use cotton! They hold dyes and stuff better, but I think polyester works as well.

This is an unpopular option but you could trace your stencil onto a rooted old shirt and then cut it out and sew it on for a nice effect especially if it has an existing pattern like stripes. You don't have to pay for anything new that way unless you want to do it onto a new shirt.
It'd be a good way of hiding logos on shirts and things you've moved on from/received as presents.

just make sure you buy the sweatshop free ones :) , which i dont think the zapatista one is. you can buy iron on transfer but ive heard both sides on whether it turns out well or not. check to see if there is a distro in your area and get the person to make you a shirt.

Doesn't acrylic paint wash off?
I learnt this the hard way when I got white acryllic on a nice grey jumper of mine. It looks like spunk <_< the answer is no, but it cracks over time
oh, and i forgot to say that before washing the shirt use a hot iron to iron it between another rag say. And when I do wash them i do them by hand or in a cool wash first

Listen Up!
What you need is 50% Acryllic Paint and 50% Textile Medium (alternatively spraypaint).
1)Mix them together
2)Apply your stencil to your shirt by spraying the back with spray adhesive in order to prevent any leakage or overspray
3)Remove stencil carefully as to not smudge your new print
4)Allow time for the paint to dry completely
5)If you used spraypaint soak the shirt in vinegar in order to preserve the color from fading
6)Always wash shirt inside out
Hope that helped...
