Personally, I don't support African Socialism, but Mugabe is serving his purpose decently. The whites in Zimbabwe need to get out, plain and simple. Their people will never get along with their colonizers.

Rigging elections is nothing new, especially if you live in America. The entire country isn't horribly poor, and of course Mugabe is falling to greed that's expected but he's to old to live much longer.

Murder of the San (Bushmen) is a different story but that is because Bantu peoples and San have never successfully co-existed....

Still, he doesn't seem to be the most horrible President in the world. Can someone explain to me what's wrong with him?

You're emphasizing segregation. What the fuck has that ever acheived?

While Mugabe may appear to be doing the honourable thing correcting colonial wrongs, he is not doing it so that the native farmers can have their lands back, he's taking the lands to give to his supporters and cronies. He's a dictator and nothing less. Since the fall of Rhodesia, the economy there has continually slipped.

"is he really that bad?" yes.

You have to realize that he is a goddamn racist dictator. He is kicking experienced farmers off, thus placing inexperienced farmers to work the land. This is not only discriminate and absolutlely blatant racism, he is starving his nation. With no experienced farmers, the land isn't being worked to its potential. He is starving his nation because he has a bloody chip on his shoulder!!

While I would concede that white farmers are the descendents of the indigenous people's colonial oppressors, what Mugabe is doing is WRONG.

Not only is he permitting and encouraging blood-shed, he is oppressing free speech and democratic opposition.

The historical race element is minor, the oppression and violence is the primary issue in my opinion.

Consequently, I can only conclude that Mugabe is a very nasty piece of work.

and another question: he took power in 1,980, yet he bringed the land issue only now. make me wonder why.

I never looked at the issue in some of these ways, but personally, I don't support Mugabe. He's just as crazy as Savimbi was actually except I've heard people on this forum call him crazy and wanted to know why.

Racial discrimination isn't the thing, but I'd personally be afraid of living in a country where people hate me for my race. I'd think South Africa would be a far more hospitable place for the white farmers to live. Mugabe seems to be using the struggle of his people in the wrong place.... yes, but I do feel on a certain level his wish to destroy colonialism..... I sound like a Facist or a Stalinist or something.... I'm gonna stop.

and i think you misunderstood Umoja. he/she did not say that he support mugabe or that mugabe is a good leader(edit: i didn't saw his last post), just that he is not the worse president in the world. i think that the worst president in the world is the leader of the DPRK.

Mugabe is a senile racist. Zimbabwe's proper fucked now thanks to his managing of the economy. Umoja clearly doesn't know the full extent of crisis in Zimbabwe. He won't let Red Cross, UN and other aid groups in to feed and help his people. What a twat.

Welcome to the board. :)

Can I say how refreshing it is to see humility, not a trait many members on here excel in??

Thanks, I'm touched.

I just realized I was wrong, and I guess I had expected to see that. Now if you get into religion then I'll be an asshole, but Mugabe does seem like an ass to me now.

Mugabe is a bully who flexes his muscle so as to intimidate those who dare oppose him, Castro is friends with him because he also led he own revolution and refuses to relenquish his power. This gives Castro another ally and solidarity. Mugabe may have seemed alright at the outset but Zimbabwe has never really had stability, Mugabe may of not worsened the situation of his country in terms of wealth and conditions of living. But he is the antonym of what he strives for in the sense that what he is doing is merely reversing the persecution onto a lot of innocent white land owners, most of these are descendants of slave bosses and have committed no crime themselves. And some have bought the land fairly they deserve not death in the robbings they are being dealt.

Mugabe has gone too far in his actions. He is a racist, and very greedy, no doubt. All Zimbabwe needed was some more freedom to the blacks, and of course equality. Beyond that, anthing else is too much. Maybe Mugabe should proclaim himself monarch and invent a timemachine? To put it simply, he is a fool.

If he wants the black people to be able to farm he should teach them first. He is letting his own people starve themselves by taking over the greatest and pretty much only source of income for his country. Mugabe is letting them ruin crops, because they don't know how to farm

A very valid statement. Cthenthar do you realize that Mugabe probably will try to continue as a dynasty. He is not that far removed from this Monarchy you speak of there is no way I can see the man relenquishing his power anytime soon.
