I saw the Island this weekend and i have to say it was a excellent film..suspensful and clever. So what is the movie about...well here is a snap shot:

Lincoln Six-Echo (McGregor) is a resident of a seemingly utopian but contained corperate-run facility in the mid-21st century. Like all of the inhabitants of this carefully controlled environment, Lincoln hopes to be chosen to go to the "The Island," reportedly the last uncontaminated spot on the planet. But Lincoln soon discovers that everything about his existence is a lie. He and all of the other inhabitants of the facility are actually human clones whose only purpose is to provide "spare parts" for their original human counterparts. Realizing it is only a matter of time before he is "harvested," Lincoln makes a daring escape with a fellow resident named Jordan Two-Delta (Johansson). Pursued by the forces of the facility that once housed them, Lincoln and Jordan engage in a race for their lives to literally meet their makers.

I the ending was quite fitting... revolution. Go see the movie and tell me what you think.

I just saw it yesterday. It was pretty good. The only problem was that towards the end I was thinking how damn long that it was and that it better end soon. And when it ended it ended abruptly. But otherwise I'd recommend it.

Haha the complex is a great analogy of capitalism and the outside world communism.

Well said Lazar!
and it took only 1 person ... well technically 2... to breakdown the walls and overthrow the oppressors. I enjoyed the films revolutionary qualities....and Ewan McGeggor was played his role well!

The movie was what I thought it was going to be: stereotypical, boring, and filled with "summer blockbuster" scenes which do nothing but act as segways.

Seriously, Micheal Bay needs to do something other than make popcorn flicks. I am VERY happy I snuck in, and did not have to pay for this summer drivel. Character arcs, methodic plot development, and beautiful dialogue is MUCH better than stereotypical and choppy directing mixed in with a few explosions.

Bleh.

i read in an interview the director said it wasn't a statement about cloning, and that it wasn't meant to be political.

It made $24,319,260 in its first two weeks, and over four times that.

Seeing as its summer and more releases will clutter the way for The Island... it seems Micheal Bay's popcorn flick was a gigantic flop.
I am sure it wasn't. Its all just to pad pockets, which it did very poorly.

Did anyone notice all the cheap movie marketing in the beginning (mostly...but it happened periodically during the entire thing)? My uncle kept pointing out these little ads in the movie...an MSN 'information booth', Aquafina water. The ads just made the movie difficult to enjoy, and they certainly remove any possible 'communist moral' to the movie.
