"who comes from the same place?"
Haha I love it. Makes me think, if I ever had to speak Chinese I would probably make some very awkwardly worded sentences :)

Man! Being on a free thinking site, if I were you, I'd just turn myself in at Secret police headquarters so the beating and flogging can get done sooner.

Dude, China isn't as bad as it was during the incident at Tiananmen. Hu Jintao is way better than Deng.

They'er both imperiralist fascist fuckers! Out of all the sadistic bastards who ran China, Mao was the best. He promised democracy and gave them oppression, but didn't allow capitalism. I believe he was good until he turned on the intellects after the healthy critism of the Hundred Flower Campaing.

I am currently living in the Peoples Republic of China -- I really like it here. I'm here for study abroad. I normally live in the United States. Right now, I reside in Hangzhou part of the Zhejiang Province.

Hello, I'm new here as well and although I don't know much about socialism in general, I am very eager to learn more. I'm from Darwin in Australia but I have been wondering about the state of China's politics and political history. I have heard that most of the production now comes from privately owned business, so I suppose that means there is no way they could be considered socialist today. Were they ever really socialist, even under Mao Zedong? I know there's probably hundreds of pages worth of information on this topic, but I'm not sure where to find it... please help out a newbie :)
PS. Sorry for the thread sabotage too :P

yes, most of the production now comes from privately owned business.
So I would say its state capitalism nowadays.
Under Mao it was socialist, with a chaotic revolutionary bite.
