Direct Connect. The RevConnect-mod when Iam sitting on a very fast line and downloading games for example, otherwise I use fulDC (a DC++ mod).
Sometimes I use Bit Torrent.

I use Limewire when I download stuff, which rarely happens as I prefer to own the "real thing" than a piece of musical information. Its pretty safe and will warn you if a file appears corrupted, on the whole its a cool system. www.limewire.com should have the downloads.

I also don't think limewire has adware. Kazaa is loaded with adware, stay away from kazaa.
Kazaa also happens to be shit and slow!
Stick with Limewire, though people say it is not the best, it is good.
If you don't mind something a little dodgy, download Shareaza (look for it on download.com). That connects to more networks than Limewire and also tells you if files are corrupted. Its also quicker than Limewire, though as it downloads different sections off different hosts, you can't preview what you are downloading very well.

Limewire and Soulseek are the most (in)famous current high quality ones, so unless you're willing to take a slight risk it might be best to stick with one of them.

I find BitTorrent is OK for the occasional download. Thats what I use, anyway.

I use Limewire. It's been pretty good for me so far, but I've been told that it has spyware. If you get a pregramme that blocks/removes adware and spyware, then it should be sweet.
Don't go anywhere near Kazaa. The amount of adware that comes with it is insane.

Don't anyone here use Direct Connect? I thought DC was the most common program for filesharing. But I guess it might not be as large outside of Europe.

Not all the versions of Kazaa are full of spyware. Kazaa K++ doesn't have any, it logs you on with a participation rating of 1000, and you can opt to block the "more from this user" search option which is what the RIAA uses to gather evidence necessary for prosecution.
Other than that, I use WinMX, Aires, and Limewire. BearShare is good too, but you need to tell your firewall to block internet access to SaveNow! when you install it (it's an adware program that sends you target popups when you browse the 'net).

Definitely limewire. However, a comrade has told me about the server Soulseek, supposedly free and possessing a wider database than limewire. I however have not been able to download it.

Nothing, I repeat nothing, beats IRC & FTP... although most of what you'll find on packetnews is XDCC, it's still all good. The key with IRC/FTP is not to try and find specifics, but be bloody glad that someone is risking the last of their liberties to share with you what they have accumulated - and take every last morsel ;)
And remember: Irregardless of how you choose to do this, err on the side of caution; be paranoid.
