The best band in the world of all time would have to be.........
What do you think the best band of all time is, I can't really decide.
So what do you think, I'm thinking along lines of Old Skool. :D

I have to say I love their new album X&Y, the music they have produced is astonishing from them. Speed of Sound would have to be my favourite from that album. Coldplay is a good thought, but I think there will be a lot of other vote's against that. :D :D

The best band without any doubt: U2
But there are more good bands.... like The wailers

Based on what attribute?

The band I listen to most is the Manic Street Preachers. But in terms of most influencial Bill Haley and his Comets, who released Rock around the clock, which is one of, if not the definative turning point in popular music in the last 50/60 years.

In terms of technical skill, I would say that the possibilities are near endless.

In terms of popularity, the Beatles win hands down.

But I think that in all likely hood the winner would be bands like Queen, Led Zeppelin, etc.

The best band without any doubt: U2

Only if best is defined as sub-standard, self righteous, boring, shite.

Oye, coldplay aren't bad. Sure they aren't amazing, but they are better than a lot of the dogshit around. Parachutes was much better than any Rage album.

Cradle of Filth is watered down Black Metal. NOT best band material.

Opeth is probably the best "overall" but I categorize quality on four important grades:

Best Overall: Opeth
Best Recording: Dimmu Borgir
Best Live: In Flames
Best Musicianship: Neurosis
Best Song Writing: My Dying Bride

Pink Moon
28th July 2005, 20:08

I haven't! Tosh is included when i say 'The Wailers'- which is the original, inclusive name of the wailers band (which tosh was of course a part of). And I actually prefer Tosh over Marley, as a song-writer, a lot more political and militant.

Best Overall: Opeth

i love you!!!

It's really hard to say which is the BEST band of all times cos many new appear, there are many different genres, and various criteria to categorize a band...

The Beatles are fantastic not only in terms of popularity, they rock in general, no question about it.(I mostly like their old stuff)

Now, the first hard rock bands, the first heavy, thrash, death anything metal bands are great cos they started a whole genre but that's a generalization of course.Queen rock, Queensryche even only for Operation Maindcrime, Bob Dylan(lyrics),Joplin(voice), Pink Floyd(everything)...........there are just too many...There is no best band of all time, the end.

Pink Floyd
Radiohead

both great bands, they create such great sound.

Dr. Rosenpenis
30th July 2005, 00:48
Jimi Hendrix = great lyrics, great voice, great everything plus great skill, great songwriting, great soul.
You know who else this reminds me of... Marvin Gaye.

In fact, add him to my top 3 (now top 4)
Beatles
Dylan
Hendrix
Marvin Gaye

also...
Coltrane
Mingus
Cream
Miles
Getz
Who
Floyd
Clash
Allmans
Zeppelin
Neil Young
Frank Zappa
Muddy Waters
John Lee Hooker

Mujer Libre
30th July 2005, 03:52
Led Zep
Queen

(yeah I sound like a walking cliche listing those two, but what are ya going to do about it? ;) )

The Yardbirds for being a breeding ground for greater things! :P

And of current bands?
Muse
Rammstein

And if U2 wins I *will* throw up ALL over the thread. Looking at Bono stroking his ego makes me want to scream...

Led Zeppelin is by far the best band ever.
Though Pink Floyd, The Who, The Doors, Black Sabbath are all good too.
And it never hurts to listen to some Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Victor Wooten, Charles Mingus, Dizzy, Sergei Nakariakov (if you have never heard him look him up). The list goes on and on.

Most Important bands ever (top 12, and in my opinion these are the bands I think helped define modern music):

1)Bob Dylan
2)Led Zeppelin
3)The Beatles
4)The Rolling Stones
5)Bruce Springsteen
6)The Kinks
7)Queen
8)Sex Pistols
9)Bob Marley
10)The Who
11)Pink Floyd
12)Nirvana (they're down here because I don't really like them too much anymore, but their influence on modern music is undeniable)

If this were extended then Public Enemy and groups from more genres would be involved, but its already getting long.

My favourite bands ever is a totally different list with very little order, basically the top 3 are:

1)The Breeders
2)Megadeth
3)Pixies

I haven't been into RATM for at least 6 months.
I still think they're better than Coldplay, though I think almost every band is.
Coldplay may be good musically, but I think most of their stuff is awful.

Whoever said U2 - read my response to the person who said Colplay!
I respect Coldplay for their musical ability, but there is nothing to respect U2 for.

If the Clash don't win, I think I'll throw this computer out of a window.

Lots of great stuff has been mentioned, my pick would be the Clash, without hesitation without reservation.

Oh and as for U2, Enigma already covered that subject to a T. Thank you!!

if this is about the most important and influential bands ever, I think The Velevet Underground definitely deserve a pretty high spot.

30th July 2005, 19:37
Ah yes, I totally forgot about them, I guess in the end its kinda hard to do a 'definitive" list. A lot of the stuff is pretty hard to guage in comparison to others. I guess on the whole for consistent quality, timelessness and overall technical prowess Led Zeppelin will probably be the "greatest" as they will no doubt be one of the longest remembered bands, and they certainly hold a lot of influence (helping develop Hard rock from the Kinks to metal and then punk, then grunge and so forth).

Yarse, at the moment it seems to be split between The Clash and Led Zeppelin with close follow-ups Bob Marley And The Wailers, Pink Floyd and Radiohead.
