Belwo is details of an uncoming activist workshop to be held in sydney by brisbane based 'the change agency'. i have worked a little with one of the organisers, and would recommend training with him to any activist - he has a very sharp mind.

workers, unionists and activists

Melbourne, The Change Agency is taking Strategising
for Change to Sydney, thanks to the Centre for Popular
Education UTS
Thursday 18th & Friday 19th August 2005, 9am-5pm
Centre for Popular Education, level 5, 235 Jones St,
University of Technology, Sydney
(next to the UTS Tower on Broadway, walking distance

Would you like to be an activist or organiser who
knows where their campaign is going? Do your current
strategies and tactics match the broader social and
political context? Would you like to be the kind of
community worker who is clear about the aims of their
project so that you can clearly evaluate what you are
trying to achieve? Many environmental and social
justice advocates are flying by the seat of their
pants and looking for effective strategies to address
the challenges we face. Sometimes we can get stuck in
reactive modes, or feel overwhelmed by the challenges
of the moment.
The good news is that there are skills and tools for
helping us become more pro-active, and creative as
organisers and organisations.
Would you like to build the skills base in your
organisation? How to develop a campaign plan?
Strategic analysis? This workshop provides you with an
opportunity to not only reflect, but to learn new
skills in strategic thinking and planning to add to
your activist tool kit. It has been designed to
enhance strategies for organisers, environmentalists,
unionists and others working for social change.
After successful and enthusiastic sessions in Brisbane
and Melbourne in May, the Centre for Popular Education
is supporting The Change Agency's Strategising for
Change initiative to come to Sydney. Seasoned trainers
James Whelan and Sam La Rocca from The Change Agency
will be facilitating two days of active and
experiential learning on strategic campaign analysis
and planning. Workshop goals include:
* Develop skills to create smart strategies for
change;
* Learn new tools for campaign planning;
* Increase your skills for accessing creativity and
understanding your gifts for strategic thinking; and
* Apply these skills and tools to your organisation
or campaign!
