Question for everyone:
What is geography's influence in the adoption and/or success of Socialism/Communism?
Will there be one socialist/communist body governing the entire world? or several smaller governments across the different continents? will all people be obligated to involve themselves with the legal system?
Im interested in hearing ideas and possible scenarios that you support individually.... How will communism or socialism work when the world's population is so spread out? Are we talking about the U.$.A. becoming socialist/communist? and then maybe spreading that on to other countries... will "countries" even exist?
What is ideal?
What do you hope and/or work towards?

Communism aims to abolish nation states, communism is an international movement and we see the exploitation of workers as global, therefore, the solution must also be global. World Revolution is the only solution and the world revolution must move towards uniting the Human Race.

Damn, what a GREAT question!
Imagine something like the European Union on a global scale--with NO immigration barriers.
The names of nation-states might still exist...but they would be more like the names of geographical features rather than having any directly political meaning.
Most "government" would be local and regional; the "World Government" would mainly keep the peace and make sure that, in broad terms, resources were equitably distributed (as the EU has transferred resources from the "rich" members to the "poor" members).
Meanwhile people would be moving around a lot...and languages would gradually meld into a more-or-less world language. (Or, there might be two or three languages and most people would speak all of them.)
One thing I wouldn't want to see is the massive regulations that currently emanate from Brussels...though something like that might be temporarily necessary. It ought to be possible to spend most of one's life with little or no contact with "government" if that is what one wishes.
As to how it may happen, I remain biased towards the Marxist scenario...a general collapse of the capitalist economies (all of the big ones) and working class revolution, all within a few months of one another.
But history may surprise us again: remember May 1968 in France? NO ONE predicted that!!!

Thank you for your responses, especially Red Star... I'll be doing some research to see what you mean about Brussels... thank you for the lead.
Id like to hear more responses from other people out there too...

As Ian said communism is an international movement and it should be our aim to destroy nation states as they stand today.
I believe in local government through direct democracy on a communal level where the power lies directly in the people. The community vote on issues which affect them directly. I don't think a "World Government" as redstar called it is necessary on a permanent basis unless there is some sort of crisis where I think a temperory more centralised government could come into action.
I agree with redstar that eventually the majority of languages will disappear or combine to create new languages and I'm all for this if it happens through evolution and not forced upon people.

At the moment, global Socialism/Communism will be almost imposible due to three reasons, some tie in with each other.
1. Corporate Monoplies
Monoply fat cats who see thems selfs better becasue they can screw 3rd world countrys though bribes/threats and teh exploitaion of humans
2. Mankinds Behavior
stubonness to realize the true way, greed, and personal preverince to be better then some1 else
3. Ethnic/personal Priorites
not letting go of rights, belives, posecions for the greater good
