Hey there. I'm new to this site, but I can already see that I'm gonna feel at home here. I'm a communist. It makes me feel very alienated at my school, when I try to talk politics, but it feels good being here, knowing that I'm surrounded by a good many comrades.

My advice is to not deal with it at all unless you outnumber them 10 to 1 ;).
Seriously, very few actual debates can take place in a school setting. My classmates have an attention span of about 5 seconds, so basically its just turns into who can fire off the best 10 second sound byte. You have to compress your argument and then just put it out there. A lot of times, disassembling the generally accepted "orthodoxy" behind traditional society takes time and requires vivid examples and detailed explanations. You can simplify it as much as you like but you're not really going to get your point across as well as you can.
Arguing with people like that is nothing but frustrating and it doesn't take you anywhere. I've debated with some intelligent capitalists and right wingers on forums and such. For the most part, its been at least informative. It made me reexamine my views and take another perspective on things. If you can find those who are willing to respectful debate and discuss with you, I see no harm in it. It caused some doubt for me but in the end I came out with even stronger convictions. As for school, fuck it. Start a political club or write an article in the newspaper, do something that will actually let you present your argument in a full and unadulterated form, but don't bother arguing with dumbasses during class.
