I wrote to Sen. Miller (D-FL) and asked him for a "no" vote, but I guess someone else also wrote to him and paid for an "aye".

which provisions?

My representative voted aye. What a fuck.

So what exactly is this particular bill saying?

The part that I found most objectionable is giving the FBI the ability to write their own warrents and conduct Sneak-and-Peak (where they break into your house and look for . . . anything) searches without having to give notice that a search has taken place.

Ok well I wasn't sure if it was the whole thing or just part of it. I wasn't sure if it had all the super oppresive shit attached to it. Ugg I'm fucking pissed.

It does. This isn't a new bill, it's a renewal of the original PATRIOT Act.

Funny how this happened just hours after those little blasts in London.

I lived in New Jersey ( a blue state) and he voted yes! How frustrating it can be when they forget they are supposed to be representatives of the people, not their own personal ambitions.

Wow, Don Young (AK) actually voted no.

Now all I need for him to do is stop pushing prayer in schools

He's REALLY smart. <_<

I don't know how a land that is supposed to be "Free" can justify passing a bill like this.
It is events like this in American politics that make me happy to not live there.

Bourgeois democracy is just a sham. pulling woll over people's eyes, giving them an impresiion that they actually have a say in the running of the state, while without exception catering to the needs of the conglomerates for whose protection the system was created in the first place.
It is inevitable for every bourgeois democracy, in it's goal of protecting bourgeois interests, to resort to neo-fascistic measures to uphold this inherently unequitable system. All of this was inevitable and is practiced in varying degrees and forms all over the world.

Paradox
25th July 2005, 04:37
I can't say I'm surprised. Pretty much expected this to happen, especially with the convenient terrorist attacks in London to "tilt" opinions in favor of renewal. I'm a bit surprised that my "representative" voted "aye" however. I live in El Paso, Texas. Now Texas on the whole is a "red" state, but El Paso is a "blue" city. And my "rep," Silvestre Reyes, I thought he would have voted "no" as such, but he voted "aye." I don't pay attention to Reyes anyway, as it's not of much use. It was just a bit surprising to see that he voted for renewal. In any case, I could care less, as this shit was pretty much inevitable.

Your not very smart are you? John Edwards was a Senator (this was a House vote). Not only that but Edwards left office after the elections.

I also apologize for my remark aswell. However it disturbs me how people seem to have no understanding of how the system works and then go on to make falacious claims about what happens.
