Does this mean that socialism is starting to become a favorible solution to certian problems? Hmmmm.............. If this goes through should we treat it as a small victory for the left? Opinions? I can't make posts in the news forum, does anyone know why that is? Grrr, it's making me mad!

I think that it would definitely be a victory for the Left. Anything that takes power away from the capitalists and places it, however fragily, in the hands of the people should be considered a victory, I think. It shows that people recognize that the "free market" is not an answer to the problems we face. Even if it doesn't pass, the fact that it's even being seriously discussed is a victory.

I know, I'm not a member of the "team". Well that's just fine! I just don't want people complaining about the unpopularity of the news forum when most of us CAN'T EVEN START THREADS THERE!!! Sorry, I had to vent. But this is just stupid! What? A common person can't post a stupid news article without being in a special club? Grrrr!!! Elitist shit this is!
Yes, I see it as a victory aswell. Just the fact that the common person wants this is good enough for me :)

I live in Oregon, and damn it all to hell, this is not going to pass. You should see how much money the opposition spent to see this fail. Will of the people my ass, they are sending out scary anti universal health care ads everywhere. I will throw up a link a little later about how much they out spent us on this.

Hey cool, you live here too? PDX or elsewhere?
Anyhow, yeah, that's more or less what I was going to say. It would be a great step in the left direction if it would pass... but nooo, Bradbury (Democrat for Senate) is losing to Gordon Smith (Republican- Bush did that fundraising dinner for this jackass), the genetically-altered food labeling thing is falling through the floor as well, the only good thing is Mannix (Republican for Governor) is losing to Kulongoski (Democrat, sorry Mazdak I thought he was Libertarian but apparently not).

Yes, PDX well..... Beaverton, does that count? I lived in Coos Bay forever.
http://www.katu.com/news/story.asp?ID=51761 This is for the proper labeling of Geneticly Modified Food.
The Food Industry has spent over 5 million dollars to kill this. Sad that one group of rich fucking exploiting bastards can drop that much money to have their way.
The people for the proper labeling have spent less than 200,000 dollars. Yes, this is a real fair country.
For Measure 23 Universal Healthcare, Measure supporters reported raising $22,023
Opponents have raised $402,692.

Canadian healthcare is being increasingly privatized. Don't worry though, I and my comrades here in Canada are fighting it through non-violent miltancy and politics of protest :)

Yeah, a few private clinics so far. It's making me increasingly angry, even the fact the the PM has his own doctor that travels around with his dumb ass :P

Its true. We are very progressive and do things first before the rest of the nation. We were the first not allowing anybody to own the land on the beaches, it is the people's. We were the first to put a deposit on carbinated cans and bottles. All out elections are mail in ballots, we were the first there. We weren't the first but close to it on allowing medicinal marijuana.
We still don't have a sales tax, we still won't let people pump their own gas, and then we have the mail in ballots, maybe not progressive but definetly lazy!
We also already have a state health program which other states are trying to copy. It isn't as comprehensive as the one they are trying to pass but it is way better than what any other state has. Poor people get health coverage in our state.
