I'm interested in organizing an event for students, young people, and anyone else who wants to educate the public about the atrocities happening in Iraq while protesting in the Portland, OR area. Ideas, suggestions...people interested, I'm just curious to see what people think about this idea.

Any protest needs good organization. Make sure to get at least 20 R.S.V.P.s that you know will be there for sure. And then you have a good base to devise your plan. However you decide to go through with it, 20 people is a great place to start. Because if everyone tells two friends to come, thats more than 50 people.

Personally you don't want to be protesting. Nobody takes protesting seriously they just ignore you. What you want to be doing in my opinion is forms of direct action. Like blockading or RTS (which is basically the same thing) etc. That’s a way to get noticed. Not standing or walking with banners. You want to really start messing things up like doing stuff to you're local Shell station or outside you're near military base.

I'm going to get my license in like 2 days so I could help with a protest after then. only an hour drive.
Instead of doing a protest why don't you do a mass information campaign? You'll reach a lot more people, you'll have less police problems, and overall it would have a greater impact. Have everybody come together at a certain location (a park or something), divide people into groups of 3 or 4 and have them hand out pamphlets and put up flyers everywhere.

That sounds like a good idea.

im not sure about that info thing. from my experiances, living in chicago, when you give some one a pamphlet they will take it and trash it a couple seconds later.

Not everybody will. As long as you reach at least one person, that's all that matters.

Well you could do that.... AND protest. The communist youth party here in my town is always handing over papers in the middle of the city. They do it atleast once in a week. But they also protest. You should do everything you can do.
