Say, in the near future, your revolution took place, and the whole world was rid of the evil nasty mean capitalists, imperialists, and anyone else you don't like this week, what would happen if the new system became unpopular ?

Would you - Continue to 'educate' people ? To make them see the right path, as you would hold the proverbial weapon, and could point it at who you like.

Or would you accept that it was an unpopular system, and let the world as a whole revert back to all the evil nastiness that you type against ?

I'm just curious as to what you people would do in a situation like that, would you become the soviet empire ? oppressive but hiding behind the idealogy ? Or would you support what the mass-people wanted ?

Just a hypothetical situation of course, your revolution doesn't seem to be gathering much steam for imminent happening, and I'm sure it'd be heavenly (would I be allowed to call it that ?) when it happend.

(A side note, would, in a worldwide communist/etc society, certain thinkings and certain ideas be surpressed ? I can't see even the most liberal amongst you allowing counter-revolutionary ideas to exist, so would they be removed ?)

I see a lot of false dilemmas with your hypothetical. However, I bite. My ideal is not a communist society. But ideals are worthless. I'm generally a supporter of the people. This is what we call democracy. I'll go with what the people want. However, if you watch polls, and opinion peaces a great majority don't care about Bush's SS plan. Rather they care about health care, education, pension plans, long term life care. This should be the priority. Not talk shows, media movie stars, or a bogus war in Iraq or Neo-liberal policies to take public benefits further in private hands.

If everything was failing, then would say go on, do what you will. But the point is it wouldn't be me, or you or any particular one of us that would be hanging on to something that was no good, what would be the point, if you aren't benifitting from leadership, then why would one hang on to a sinking ship? Because they like the name? Hanging on to to a failing social and economic system is so ridiculous I could not imagine why anyone would want to do it. Actually yes I can I see it daily, but that is because there are benifits of being on top, especially when what you are on top of is shit.

I know what you are getting at though. Yes If everything was tryed and done. Not another regime, but a full commitance to communism, and t wasn't effectively distributing goods, everyone was starving, and people were crying out to bring back their bosses to make it right, then I say go for it.

Most of leftists here aren't clinging to something to be cool or different, they are doing so because of good intentions, and after serious thought having arrived at what seems a logical way to approach things.

I would hate to think that certain thinkings would be suppressed. They may become unpopular, but if things are working that will be understandable. I guess the only way of thinking that would actively be discouraged would be the idea f one person being automatically better than another (be it because of age, colour, sex...well anything). Although there is at least a sentiment of that now in some areas. The only reasson I say this may be suppressed is because the other option is not suppressing discrimination.

It's not a matter of us "letting" people go back to the "nasty old system"...if enough of them want to do that, then there is no way to prevent it. All we can do is delay it -- fight like hell to keep the new system operating.

The USSR delayed the restoration of capitalism in East Germany (1953), Hungary (1956) and Poland (1980s)...but could not stop it -- even within the USSR itself.

Ultimately, the masses are the makers of history...and they will decide.
