For those of you who have seen the movie I want to know what you think the message was. In the end there really didn't seem to be any reconciliation as far I see it. Do you think the movie took sides with a particular race? Finally, why do you think Mookie (Spike Lee) threw the garbage can at Sal's to start the looting and rioting?

Since nobody seems to have an opinion on this film I am beginning to wonder if anyone has even seen it. If you have seen it and you're unsure of how to take the ending please say so.

I've seen the movie, and it seems that the film tends to take both sides of the issue equally. Why did Mookie throw the trash can through Sal's window? Simple: he was hot, tired, under-paid, and pissed off so this was, what he felt, the right thing to do at the time.

A friend of mine showed me some reviews of the movie from back in 1989 and it seemed like many critics felt the movie was anti-white. A lot of the critics complained about the burning of Sal's yet at the same time they didn't seem to say much about the death of Radio Rahim. To be fair, it is the police who kill Rahim and the residents do unfairly target the pizza place as if Sal had killed Rahim. At the end the critics complained about the fact that the residentsa did nothing to admit their wrong doings. I tried to look for links to these reviews but my friend got them from a university course and i can't find the reviews online.
