Black Flag is Anarchist right?
And Rise Against.
Black Flag isn't anarchist. They sang about beer and partying and not politics. They do have like 2 political songs, but that's it.

What the hell are you talking about? Rollins is well-known for being straight edge and they have numerable songs against that lifestyle. For example.

Get drunk a lot
And work 40 hours a week
Spend half your time
Hung over, sick and weak
Make sure to tell yourself that this is cool
And make sure to tell yourself that you have no choice
And make sure to tell your friends that they drive you to it
And that you can quit anytime
That you want, anytime
You can quit
Anytime
That you want
You can quit

You can quit

Party down, party down
Drinkin' til you can't even see
Un your car with your buddies
And wrap it around a tree
Make sure to tell yourself that this is cool
And make sure to tell yourself that you have no choice
And make sure to tell your friends that they drive you to it
And that you can quit anytime

Let me guess, you heard TV Party and haven't heard anything else by the band? TV Party is complete satirical criticism of that lifestyle.

Won't bother you with any Anarchist, class conscious, or leftist bands since you say you already know of them. As far as specifically Socialist, the Dils come to mind.

Thanks for suggestions so far. Concerning the debate over Black Flag (I own "The First Four Years" by them) I never knew them to be anarchist, but they certainly were aginst the establishment and sang songs such as "American Waste" and "Six Pack" to promote this message. Another good band from that time is Minor Threat (same area too), though also not socialist or anarchist.
- HP
Yes, black flag was against aspects of society but they were never political. And certainly not anarchist.
What the hell are you talking about? Rollins is well-known for being straight edge and they have numerable songs against that lifestyle. For example.
So drinking is a political problem, according to you? I'd consider it a social problem, because it is. Being straight-edge isn't political.
Let me guess, you heard TV Party and haven't heard anything else by the band? TV Party is complete satirical criticism of that lifestyle.
Yes I do own the "TV Party" 7". I also own numerous other Black Flag records and CD's. I also did a college lit paper on the history of punk rock. So I know what I'm talking about. I'd like to see you prove that Black Flag was political.

Whether they were a political band was never my contention. I was simply pointing out that they were not about "beer and partying" as you suggested. Anyone with even a cursory knowledge of Black Flag's music can tell you that. Henry Rollins, former frontman of Black Flag, is well-known for his abrasive straight-edge stance. To say they were about "partying" and "beer" is like saying the Hunchback of Notre Dame was all about standing up straight. They have several songs mocking that lifestyle, like the one I posted. Write all the college lit papers you want, you don't know shit about Black Flag. You probably just heard "TV Party" and assumed they were being serious... Like I said, "TV Party" is complete satire. I'm not trying to be a dick, but you're persisting on this when you're clearly wrong.

I again agree with Free Palestine here: while Black Flag wasn't dominantly political, if not at all political (it is true they focused on social issues), they still weren't mindless jocks.

I'm so glad somebody mentioned The Dils - they've easily been among my favorite bands for a while. Some of their material is almost like a more abrasive Beatles - I love it.
If you're into "Harder" stuff, you might dig "Seein' Red" - who, coincidently, covered the Dils (Mind you, so did DOA . . . and Dillinger Four . . . and scores of other bands).
What, in particular, are you into, anywhom? I mean, just saying "punk" is really fucking broad . . .

Bad Religion is the only band I can think of.
Also the only class conscious band that I know of that really sang about class struggle in anarchist terms was Crass. Although Steve Ignorant is really hard to hear.

Actually, Crass's early existential anarchism actually rejected class along individualist lines (think CrimethInc.), though this seems to have changed somewhat in their later days . . . especially with Ignorant going on to sing with explicitly class-conscious band CONFLICT.
Crass was just one band in a really vibrant, international peace-punk scene/movement. You might look at the other bands who released music through Crass's collective record label, Motorhate, or a number of smaller, more obscure labels.
This tradition has largely been taken up by the crust scene, as epitomized by the Profane Existence (http://www.profaneexistance.com) label/magazine.
Sorry, peace-punk is kinda a hobby of mine. :P

Molotov Cocktail: assuming your question was directed at me, I listen to mainly American and British political punk (most of my tast is mainly 80s) - which consists of DK (my favorite), The Clash, Crass (how long did their commune last?), Minor Threat, Black Flag, Circle Jerks, Sex Pistols, NY Dolls, and the Adicts. I've been looking at more recent punk though, like the US Bombs and the Hunns (I dig Duane Peters in general) as well as early punk roots such as the Dead Boys and the Damned. I like to look up a lot of punk bands, and this was an easy way to learn of a whole bunch.
Speaking of which, thanks again for all suggestions.

Vans Warp Tour hit my town on Friday, it was rockin. There was a band there called Opiate for the Masses, there merch tent had hammer and sicle on it and they had an old soviet flag flyin over their tent. unfortunately the band wasn't there when i got there, they were gettin ready for their set. The guy at the tent didn't know much about their ideologies but he knew that they support some Marxist thoughts. I dunno if you'd call them punk, they were a little heavier than any one else their, closer to metal I think but still not a bad band.
edit, they are still "up and coming" out of Phoenix, dunno if you'll find a whole lot on them, just puttin it out there.

Kill kill kill the poor. Great Band. War is coming back in style
I'm going to tell you a progressive, “punk” (even though they don't consider themselves punk” anarchist band. There underground, and not many people have heard of them. They are from Manitoba. They are called, Propagandhi They are great, and you should listen to them.
Their website is: http://www.propagandhi.com/news.shtml
Or you can go to Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Propagandhi
Here are some lyrics to give you an idea:
From their second album: Less talk More Rock
...AND WE THOUGHT THAT NATION-STATES WERE A BAD IDEA
"publicly subsidized! privately profitable!" that's the anthem of the upper-tier (the puppeteer untouchable). we focus a moment, nod in approval and bury our head back in the bar-codes of these neo-colonials while our former nemesis (ah, the romance!): the nation-state, now plays fund-raiser for a new brand of power-concentrate. try again, but now we're confused- what is "class-war"? is this class war? yes, this is class war. and i'm just a kid- i can't believe that i gotta worry about this kind of shit! what a stupid world! yeah, this is just beautiful... absolutely no regard for principle. what a stupid world. (we're): 1) born 2) hired 3) disposed! where that job lands, everybody knows and you can tell by the smile on the ceo's that the environmental restraints are about to go. you can bet that laws will be set to ensure the benefit of unrestricted labor-laws (all kept in place by displaced government death squads). they own us. they produce us. they consume us. can you fucking believe this? what a stupid world. fuck this bullshit display of class-loyalties. the media and "our" leaders wrap it all up in a flag- their fucking shit-rag. Hooray!
THE STATE-LOTTERY
does it seem strange to you? the confetti. the balloons. the mile-wide grins and the victory dance to welcome in the heir to a state of (utter and complete) disrepair? because it sure seems strange to me: they're acting like they won the fucking lottery! i mean, shouldn't they feel terror at the task that lies ahead: to feed and house the people that this system's left for dead. and could i have hit the nail much harder on the head? it's profits before lives. they are motivated by greed. first they taught us to depend on their nation-states to mend our tired minds, our broken bones, our bleeding limbs. but now they've sold off all the splints and contracted out the tourniquets and if we jump through hoops then we might just survive. is this what we deserve? to scrub the palace floors? to fight amongst ourselves? as we scramble for the crumbs they spit out, frothing at the mouth about the scapegoats that they've chosen for us. with every racist pointed finger i can hear the goose-steps getting closer. they no longer represent us so is it not our obligation to confront this tyranny?
From their first album: How to Clean Everything
STICK THE FUCKING FLAG UP YOUR GODDAM ASS, YOU SONOFA*****
my father told me "son, it's futile to resist, you can topple ideology but not the armies they enlist." i questioned the intentions of the boy scouts chanting war. "well that's the sound of freedom, son" he said. (free to say no more.) but wait a minute dad, did you actually say freedom? well, if you're dumb enough to vote, you're fuckin dumb enough to believe him. cuz if this country is so goddam free, then i can burn your fucking flag wherever i damn well please. i carried their anthem, convinces it was mine. rhymeless, unreasoned conjecture kept me in line. but then i stood back and wondered what the fuck had they done to me. made accomplice to all that i'd promised i would never fucking be. never be. you carry their anthem convinces that it's yours. invitation to honor. invitation to war. bette midler now assumes sainthood. romanticize murder for moral. tie a yellow ribbon round the oak tree my friend, and "gee wally, that's swell!" fuck the troops to hell!
From there last album: Today's Empire, Tomorrow's Ashes.
Fuck The Border
Friend of mine dropped me a line
"Man, gotta run to the USA.
Got no money, got no job."
Skipped out of Mexico to stay alive.
You've got a problem with her living here,
What d'you do to help her
Before she fucking came?
What did the country do?
What did the country do?
What did the people do?
What did the country do?
What did the people do?
I stand not by my country,
By people of the whole fucking world.
No fences, no borders.
Free movement for all.
Fuck the border.
Fuck the border.
Fuck the border.
Fuck the border.
It's about fucking time to treat people with respect.
It's our culture, consumption that makes her life unbearable.
Fuck this country; its angry eyes, its knee-jerk hordes.
Legal or illegal,
Watch her fucking go.
She'll take what's hers.
Watch her fucking go. Yeah!
Fuck the border.
Fuck the border.
Fuck the border.
Fuck the border.
Fuck the border.
Fuck the border.
Fuck the border.
Fuck the border.
Bullshit Politicians
Every fucking day
Our cities tell us what they think of justice.
Lock the courageous away
As the cowards plaster the cracks spreading through the monolith.
But if this man isn't freed, this city burns.
This city burns.
This city burns.
This city burns.
This city burns.
"And on this Day of Remembrance
Let us not kneel and pray for the dead.
But Let us stand and activate for the living,
To rescue those about to die"
(At the hands of)
Bullshit politicians;
Bloated pin-dick motherfuckers
Bullshit politicians;
Bow and curtsy to the seats of power.
We'll never learn and nothing will ever change
As we stay this course of followers and slaves.
I can't believe we're still content
Reshuffling the same old decks
Of kings and queens and faux-democracies.
I say we hand it back (to the)
Bullshit politicians.
Bullshit politicians.
Brick by brick,
Wall by wall...
New Homes For Idle Hands
Suburbs tremble again,
Fearing the have-nots at the window, collecting their fair share.
Guns and alarms aren't enough.
They demand "justice",
And every criminal locked away,
As well as any kid who might do something wrong.
There's a jail out of town
With fences so high
We won't think 'bout who's inside.
Neighbours are disappearing behind the bars.
Kids are doing time for petty crimes.
And it don't matter who they are.
It don't matter that they're alive.
A warehouse...
For victims of circumstance.
Cops are rounding up slaves;
Workers that don't complain or come late.
A workforce behind bars.
They'll make gadgets, circuit boards or fix cars.
It don't matter who they are.
It don't matter that they're alive.
Crime pays, ask the bankers floating bonds
To build cages for the city's "idle-hands”, instead of schools.
Factories with fences meet the prisons without walls.
"And we shall have your skulls."
They'll kick you to the ground.
You'll find yourself employed again.
On the inside.

Unity
There's a war going down between my brothers tonight,
I don't want no war going down, going down tonight.
Stop this war
Stop this war
Civilization? Ha! I call it as I see it.
I call it bullshit, you know, I still cannot believe it
Our evolution now has gone the way of hate
A world evolved resolved in this stupid fate
Stop this war
Stop this war
All so different yeah, I say we're all the same
All caught, you know, in the division game.
Self destruction fast impending like a bullet.
No one can stop it, once it's fired, no one can control it.
Stop this war
Stop this war
A final word, wait it's not a call to action
We ain't no sect, no, this ain't no fucking faction.
Unity, unity, unity you've heard it all before.
This time it's not exclusive - we want to stop a war.
Stop this war
Stop this war
Ain't nothing wrong with another unity song
Ain't nothing wrong with another unity song
Ain't nothing wrong
Ain't nothing wrong
Ain't nothing wrong
Ain't nothing wrong with a unity song
Stop this war
Stop this war
Unity, as one stand together
Unity, evolution's gonna come
