[Capital Punishment]

I'm sure many of you have HBO and have seen some of these documentaries. I just saw "Soldiers in the Army of God." Right Wing religious extremists bomb and burn abortion clinics, and shoot innocent doctors and nurses doing their jobs.

I think we all can agree that right wing extremists are the scum of the earth.

Any body seen these or have thoughts on this?

Yes, they are that.

What else are they?

One way to look at them is that they are the "American equivalent" of stormtroopers. They don't have brown shirts or march in parades (usually)...but they firmly believe in "holy violence" and are quite willing to initiate it whenever they think they can get away with it.

Another version has it that they are the "American Taliban"...the people who are determined to punish us for "vice" and intimidate us into "virtue".

In my opinion, they are simply part of a "larger picture" -- as the German stormtroopers were themselves part of a "larger picture".

I think Americans have to face up to the fact that fascism can happen here and that, indeed, it is happening here.

After all, what need is there for "Operation Rescue" if women's clinics can be destroyed legally? And that appears to be the intent of many politicians at both the state and federal level -- mostly but far from exclusively Republicans.

There's no doubt in my mind that capitalism can function under a Christian theocracy and even prosper under a Christian "Supreme Mullah".

But people here who are pro-capitalist might still want to ask themselves: is that the kind of country I want to live in?

And if it's not, what are you prepared to do about it?

Christianity, with just about every other religion, thrives in a violent state. As long as you have people killing others, it keeps the "crusade" feeling going strong.

If we don't push back, what will become of the US? As RedStar 2000 said, probably a Theocracy. And if a Theocracy, than we are truly fucked.

Theocracy's always have a tendancy to "cleanse" the people, and that is something that might come in the way of most of our lives. If we let religion and politics mingle we will at least see a watered down version of Theocracy. And I'm talking even worse than the Reagan years.

One of the extremists claimed that God came to them, asking to save the unborns lives by killing. He said that when he aimed the rifle, he felt God's hand grasp his like a glove. What bs.

Clarksist and RedStar, I agree that we need to prevent theocracy, but as far as stopping christian advancement, we can't do much with freedom of speech in establishment. Well, besides education.

I don't think he was talking about his freedom of speech, but theirs.

Of course, their "freedom of speech" (in both legal and philosophical senses) is very different from the freedom to organize to secure theocracy . . .

Time to nip the new facism at the bud, American comrades, before I have to deal with it here. :P
