If you're a U.S. high school student, watch your mail! And your phone!

Buried in the 650 pages of the "No Child Left Behind" Education Act is a provision that REQUIRES schools to provide all high school student records to the U.S. Army on request, including addresses, phone numbers, etc.

The army will use these records to directly recruit you with mail, phone calls and even PERSONAL VISITS.

If a career as a professional killer in the service of U.S. imperialism doesn't have much appeal for you, you do have the right to ask your school administration to with-hold those records. But lots of schools don't even tell students that they can protect their privacy by request; they just hand over everybody's records.

ok, well when i reached 16 i got a letter through my post asking when i wanted to come and join up! seriously!

I'm not sure how/why this happened though, of course it may have been some friend, who thought it would be "funny" to do such a thing...but meh

Not surprising. The Marines sure went as far as personally visiting my house to try and recruit me. But that was because this dickhead I know told them I was qualified.

I actually once considered going to RMCC (royal military college of canada) but I'd have to serve a manditory 5 years afterward, and (naturally) they could call on my anytime for a 'mission' even in 30 years from now, and I didn't like that idea very much, so I wouldn't go.

If recruiters call you up, sound interested, ask them about the health benefits, ask them if they cover Insulin for your diabetes. That gets them off the phone real quick, also you might ask them if they have thought of changing over to a different long distance provider, that gets people off the phone really quick.

Well, since half my friends joined the military, all of them decided to give my name and address to these fucks, so I was getting calls daily. Once, when I told them I was interested in film, they had the gaul to tell me there were plenty of oppurtunities in the marines to learn about it. I hung up.

As to what you mentioned Redstar, that is bullshit. Not even telling the kids their addresses are being sent to the military machine is fundamentally wrong.

I was once told a story about how some people beat the U.S. military draft during the Vietnam war...and they didn't have to go to jail or to Canada.

They went to the place where draftees were supposed to report with clothing, signs, badges, etc. proclaiming their solidarity with the National Liberation Front.

The big fuckers tried to intimidate the draftees, of course. One of them got in this kid's face and asked him if he would allow himself to be drafted and sent to Vietnam. The kid said, "Of course. And when I get there, how long do you think it will take me to learn how to say 'don't shoot, comrade' in Vietnamese?"

The whole bunch beat the draft and never suffered ANY consequences. Resistance is always best.

There is a computer game being developed by the US Army that is basically a full war simulator. It is designed to attract youth to the military, and has recruitment links at various places in it.

Ah I played that game.

It's the worst game ever... Seriously. It needs you to go through all that training and shit. Totally boring. And there's the major during that training thats spreading nationalist bullshit. And all this stuff in the camp like "duty" and "honor" and all that bullshit.

I like realism in a first person shooter but this is just boring. All I wanna do is go straight to the battlefield and kill people. Not waste my time training. =)
