More Fire for the People

Well, I have begun to write an article appealing to the youth of America about the need for a revolutionary movment and the connection between the student and labor movments.

All I have written so far is,
Often the revolutionaries of society are the youth of society and in modern times the youth of society are primarily students. The average composition of black blocs, protestors, and resistors are students from colleges and universities. It is even evident in history that students are the revolutionaries in society in the mere existence of the Students for a Democratic Society, the Worker-Student Alliance, the Revolutionary Youth movement, and countless other student and labor movements.

In recent times, there has been a decline in the revolutionary movement amongst students and a deterioration of class-consciousness. The consequences of this deterioration of class-consciousness are the decline of labor resistance, unionization, and the prevalence of political apathy. The question of the moment is, “What are we students to do?” The answer is to educate just as you are being educated.

You have to confront the imperialist campaign on school, college, and university campuses. Defy the prevalence of reactionary education and tyranny of the conservatives. Whether you be an anarchist, a libertarian communist, Marxist-Leninist, Trotskyist, Maoist, or uphold any other ideology of the revolutionary left you must inform and educate your peers about radical resistance to class oppression.

Organize your fellow comrades into anti-war demonstrators, protestors for civil rights and liberties, students’ rights, labor rights, and labor unionization. Work for a student and labor run local newspaper, encourage fellow workers to join unions and participate in political demonstrations, and defy reactionary oppression.

The problem is that this doesn't have the appeal I want and it probably won't even interest most students.

That is were I need you all. I need suggestions of what you would like to see in an article like this, of what you think the article needs revising on, and other such things.

Here's a quote that might come in helpful.

Mumia Abu-Jamal
"Young people today are all potential revolutionaries with the historic power to transform our dull realities if they are lost. Find them"

The problem is to be seen as some sort of missionary, converting people to "the cause". Start with a focus on everyday life, don't tell people what they have to do, don't preach!

Yeah I was just going to say. One of the best pieces I've ever read about leftist didn't even go into that much detail about the inner workings of communism or class struggle or anything like that. It simply details everyday life as we know it (boring, monotonous) and how that can all come to change.

Its called Why Work by Bob Black

Another good one (sorry no link) is a rather long piece called the Right to Be Greedy.

The way I view communism has changed over time. First I was drawn to to it out of altruism because I felt there needed to be more social justice in the world. However, now that I've read about how a communist society would function I find that it is just as liberating for me as it is for the average poor worker. Thats the angle you have to project. You can't rely on people's altrusim because in this day and age cynicism is incredibly rampant. Make personal connections and then work from there. Hope that helps.
